MINI B38 3-banger Dyno Test
Hey guys,
How that we know how to get the cars in dyno mode we were finally able to get a B38 strapped down for a little testing.
The car managed a best of 138whp stock and 157whp using the BMS Stage1. Overall pretty solid gains. The car had a full tank of gas and the owner wasn't sure if it was 89 octane or 91 octane. So definitely expect a little more power if using say 93 octane.

For comparison, here are the standard power/torque 'curves' for the Yurpeen version, from www.automobile-catalog.com

I can read that they have a baseline of 136 BUT that is what the car claims from the factory and you will not get that HP to the ground/dyno pull as you have drivetrain loss, or atleast that is how it has worked in all the other Gen Models of MINI..2002 to present..

But that dyno sheet is based on actual pull with and without Burger Tuning Stage 1 tuning.
Also keep in mind that it will be hard to replicate the same exact result everytime since there are too many variable that we can't control (such as; air temp, humidity, gas quality, elevation, etc).

I don't know how to run a dyno but have read for years that it can be manipulated to read high or low. NOW I'm not saying they did this I'm just asking how did the car read the same HP that it is rated at from the factory. I've never seen it done before with any make or model car... regardless of how the dyno is set up their gain is still their gain which is what they are trying to show here.. as long as all the pulls were done with the same dyno settings..

Stock R56 JCW's routinely put out close to their rated bhp numbers...at the wheels. Even Cooper S R56's will put out around 190's ft-lbs to the wheels.

BMW publishes numbers differently compared to other manufacturers since their turbo engines started coming out about 8 years ago.
I can assure you Terry isn't tweaking the numbers to sell more of his tunes. He has a really solid reputation in the BMW community.

Moving to a true BMW turbo engine is what sold me on the 3rd gen!
*edit* It's amazing what you can find in a 2 minute search on the Internet...
