Has anybody modified their MINI to withstand
the rigours of NYC parking ?

(More at carbumper.com .)

Why worry ? See SUV backs into my MINI thread.

I am in NYC and park my car on the street. Had it for a day, when my driving light was banged in by an suv parking in front of it, and now have a little tiny scratch on my rear bumper from someone who decided to use it as a parking 'marker' Uhhhh! I have been thinking the same thing. I saw another mini in the city, with some kind of styrofoam (a homemade thing) hooked onto his front grille, so if someone backed into it, they'd hit the syrofoam. I wanted to look into having a metal bar, don't know what it is called, that goes around the front of the car like suvs have, but dont know where to get it. Help us, someone!!!

I heard getting guarding rails on the outside of your car is very bad.

During a frontal collision, the railing affects the timing of the release of your airbags because the sensors get affected late. The result is your airbags going off a second late and impacting you as your body is already forward.

That could be very bag.(mental image)

This is just what I was told from a friend who has a range rover and took their bars off after they read some study about crash impacts and airbags.

Just something to think about.

I would stick to the rub strips, even tho they are ugly.

My solution was to have a crappy car in NYC. Brooklyn is just as brutal, but a crappy car scares them more than you.
