While it absolutely paints me to do this, I am putting my 2003 MINI Cooper S up for sale. With a 4-year old & a 1-year old, our family now needs more space, so I am moving onto a 2013 MINI Cooper S Clubman, which I should take delivery of in a few weeks. I am set to trade my '03 MCS in when my Clubman arrives, but I figured it couldn’t hurt to try and sell the vehicle privately. Hopefully, she can continue motoring with another MINI enthusiast, rather than having the dealer do whatever it will do with her. So now onto the nitty gritty...
I am the original owner of this 2003 MINI Cooper S, having custom ordered it from MINI in April 2003. I took delivery of the car in July 2003, and it has been my daily driver ever since. It still puts a smile on my face to drive it, and like I said, I wish I could hold onto it forever, but life has interceded.
The MCS is my daily driver, and currently has 124,950 miles on it (a 50/50 mix of city/highway driving over the life of the car)...which will tick up about 25-30 miles per day. I am still getting 22-24mpg city, and 30-33mph highway.
The exterior of the car is in very good shape, with some expected wear for the age and mileage. From 5 feet the car still looks amazing, however it is a daily driver, and is not perfect. There are two scratches (about 1-inch & 3-inches) from someone dragging a bag or something on the car (even parking in the back corner, away from everyone, some people are still completely discourteous ). I have regularly washed the vehicle, clay barring at least twice a year, and waxing every 6-weeks at minimum. The S-Lite wheels to have some curb rash on them, but overall they are in good shape. People still think the car is only a few years old, and are amazed when they learn it is almost 10-years old.
The interior is in excellent shape. The only area showing signs of real wear is the driver seat side bolsters (the leather is showing wear from entering/exiting the car...no tearing, just wear). Otherwise, the carpets, seats, dash, console, etc. are all extremely clean. I have had rubber floor mats in the car since it was almost new, so the carpets are in excellent condition, and the original carpet mats are in practically new condition. All electronics are in perfect working order, A/C still blows cold (it was checked & recharged during a MINI service appointment 2-years ago), and all that good stuff.
Mechanically, the car is solid, and should have many, many years and mile of motoring left. I have performed oil changes religiously every 6k-8k miles on the car (about half of the MINI recommended 15k service interval). Last fall, a new set of Cooper RS3-A tires were mounted and have less than 8k miles on them (they were rotated at 5k miles of use). The ignition system was overhauled last summer, and the control arm bushings were replaced with PowerFlex bushings last fall. After a water pump/thermostat failure, the cooling system was overhauled. During the water pump replacement, the supercharger was removed and received an oil change.
Here is a complete list of the maintenance/repairs over the past 2-years...
Fall 2011
New Brake Pads & Rotors
Braided Stainless Steel Brake Lines
Brake Fluid Flush
New Driver Door Window Regulator
Summer/Fall 2012
New MSD Ignition Coil
New Magnecore Spark Plug Wires
New Brisk Spark Plugs
New Cooper RS3-A 205/45 R17 Tires
New front lower control arm bushings, replaced with PowerFlex urethane bushings
New front inner & outer ball joints
4-Wheel Alignment
New Passenger Door Locking Mechanism
Spring 2013
New coolant expansion tank (replaced with OEM unit)
New thermostat...checked housing for cracking/warping, found to be in excellent condition.
Replaced water pump
Removed supercharger (to replace water pump)...performed oil change maintenance on supercharger & upgraded supercharger pulley with a CravenSpeed 15% reduction pulley.
New radiator hoses
New Mishimoto All-Aluminum Radiator
New Radiator Cooling Fan
Coolant Flush
ALTA Intercooler Couplers
The only outstanding maintenance issue, that I should have replaced when I overhauled the cooling system, is a weeping crank position sensor o-ring gasket. A very common issue on the Gen1 MINIs. If I was keeping the car, I would do the maintenance this summer, instead I have just been checking the oil levels more often. It's not leaking a lot of oil, maybe a 1/3 quart every 1000 miles or so.
I am valuing the car between Good and Very Good on the KBB scale, and therefore asking $6750 or best offer.
I also have a set of R84 V-Spokes/X-Lites that served as my winter wheels for several seasons, that am willing to bundle. They are in excellent condition, and look nearly brand new. You can see them here if you would like to purchase them separately, or we can discuss a deal if you want to buy them with the car...

I am located in the northwest suburbs of Chicago. If you're interested, or have any questions, send me a PM...
