Towing capacity of the 07 MINI???

tried doing a search but can not really find the answer I am looking for... Sold my PU and have a 07 cooper on order - Need to go to Souther CA and pick up a 5X8 (empty) Wells Cargo trailer (empty weight 1000#) Does the Mini have a Tow Capacity anywhere in the owners manual??? Has anyone here used their Mini to tow a tailer?? Not to worried about flat land / not sure about the Tehachapi, California pass on highway 58 (better route than the Grapevine on highway 5..

Am I asking too much of the Mini for this trip???

yes people have used minis to tow...
there are lots of threads, but I don't recall seeing a max.

I'd call a vendor like MiniDoMore or one of the others to see what they say...

Read your owners manual, it details the max towing capacity at the end of it.

Just came back to AZ from the Tehachapi/Mojave area. Pretty gentle climb up to Tehachapi, but it can get quite windy. They did pick a good place for a Wind Farm.

Towing capacity appears in the index, but on the page in question, I could not find any details on towing capacity.

I believe the max weight is 1400 and the max tongue weight is 100 lbs (if not exactly 100 is is somewhere in that neighborhood). If you do a search for teardrop (or it might be tear drop) you should be able to find several posts that talk about towing, including links to places that sell hitches (I think they run about 300 plus installation or you can install it yourself if you are inclined to do so).

experience

With my sportbike, gear, and trailer I usually end up in the 800-950# range behind my MCS. Plenty of power, plenty of brake, but on windy curves, like Tail of the Dragon, it can get a bit unsettling during the transitions going into the curves.

Basicly you just have to slow down to about the yellow posted speed limitsinstead of maintaining the usual mini cruising speeds.

The other issue is the hitch tow limit which I believe for the Mini Do More hitch is 1000lbs. The Mini fini sport link is even less I think..but don't quote me on that one. I have the Mini Do More hitch but haven't towed anything yet, been mostly using for bike rack.

I have a Mini-Fini II on my R56 MCS. It is rated at up to 1400 lbs towing capacity. I have not yet towed with it, but I have no doubt that the R56 additional torque will make towing that weight just fine. I have towed a tow dolly with my classic Minis (which are supposed to be in the 1300 lb window) behind my previous R53 JCW MCS with no problems.

both the SportLink 1 and the SportLink 2 have been road tested over thousands of miles towing in excess of 1200 to 1400 lbs with no problem. Do to the unique patented design, that incorporates structural spports that insert into the frame sockets and also utilize the 8 bumper mount bolts, there is no stronger system available. We now recommend a maximum of 150lbs tongue weight ,this is more a concern to over-taxing the vehicles suspension not concerns of damage to the SportLink or TowLink attachment.
