We now have a sign up sheet set up for the Club Corral area. Mini will have a hospitality area there. We need 35 cars signed up ASAP. There is a limit of 500 cars on a first come first served basis. Hold onto your check for a couple of days till we see how many are interested. The prices are posted on the Saturday sign up sheet. Local Mini folks -- I just talked to Doug Earle on Friday who is responsible for the events planning at the Monterey Historics in August. They've just concluded a meeting with MINI USA and planning is now really coming together for the event. This is a preview and heads-up, since none of the detailed info is public yet, but will be soon:
As has been announced, Cooper will be the featured marque, and Minis will be the favored cars at the event. MINI USA will be setting up a hospitality area for Mini owners on the barbeque island in the middle of the lagoon at the track, adjacent to the inner paved parking area between turns 2 and 3. This parking area will be reserved for Mini clubs on Saturday and Sunday. To book spaces in this club corral, clubs have to pre-register on behalf of their members, with a minimum of 35 reservations required. Costs are the same as for the regular event, $65 per person on Saturday, $45 on Sunday, but the convenient parking is a real plus when attending the event, and Minis parked in the clubs corral will have the opportunity to drive parade laps around the track on Saturday definitely, and possibly on Sunday as well.

Of course, classic Mini Coopers will be racing during the weekend. We know that MiniCindy Shaffer, MC2 columnist, will be participating, as weill Don Racine in his Monte Carlo Rallye Mini. We expect that a number of the Mini suppliers will be in attendence, and Barry, Gary and Matt, as well as Cindy from MC2 magazine will be there on vendor row.
All details have not been worked out yet, but Doug said that one event taking place on Saturday would have the president of MINI and Michael Cooper would be delivering the first 45 JCW Grand Prix models in the United States to buyers who have already ordered them as part of the ceremonies on Saturday.
Also, MINI USA will be staging a two-week coast-to-coast rally from the Historics to Lime Rock for the Rolex historic races, starting from Monterey after the conclusion of the races.

The central club corral can handle about 500 cars, but with as many MINIs as there are in California, these spaces could go fast, so you may wish to get organized and book spaces for your club members soon.

With the calls and e-mails from today alone, 35 will be no problem.

 

Have we all agreed on the "group name"? Since there will be members from Nor Cal, REME, Gold Country, Mid Cal, Sierra Nevada, MOASF, and others, I suggest we call the group "Northern California Mini Owners" for this event. That way we will all count toward the 35 car minimum. I have gotten several responses from my email message, and I would like to respond with a "group name' and point of contact.

I suggest that Melanie Sibavan of Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca be the point of contact. (see below) for access to forms and address to mail for tickets and registration.

I was just trying to get everyone to agree on a name before eveyone started making revervations under a bunch of different names.

A "Big California MINI Corral" would be awesome.

"A BIG California Mini Corral" would be great. There will be lots of Classic Mini's there too.

 

NORCAL has 35 cars ready to sign up. We took a poll of some members and officers. We would like to have Norcal have its own corral. We have several things planned around this already. Our original offer still stands if anyone would like us to get them a ticket or tickets we will gladly add them to our order.

Is this Norcal-only corral for the six clubs listed in the second post, or only for the Nor Cal MINI Club?

Although SoCal Mini fans may not turn out in huge numbers, there are still those of us interested in participating.

This is the norcal minis thread. We are getting a corral for norcal and we have offered to get tickets for those that cannot get enough cars together to get them on their own and would like to join us. You don't have to belong to this club.

 

I talked to your event person just a few minutes ago check with him.

 

Norcal Minis will continue to proceed with our club order until we hear something official from Laguna Seca.

 

I have checked with Gary at MC2 and Doug Earle at General Racing today 4-6-06. The instructions on our order form stand. You must order your tickets with a club or organization group order. The order must be 35 or more per day to get a corral pass. Thats 35 for Saturday and 35 for Sunday. You cannot get a corral pass with a single ticket purchase. So sign up soon.

 

You do not have to be a member or join NorCal MINI's to sign up.

If you would like us to get you or your group tickets now is the time. $45 for friday, $65 for saturday, $45 for sunday, $125 for 3 day , $ 95 for sat/sun. Every person needs a ticket. Let us know how many cars on each day. Don't forget your CONTACT INFO. Send a money order made out to Norcal Minis to C. Witt 5829 Biddle Ave, Newark, Ca 94560. We will send in the first order April 21st. Other orders as needed.
