MINI vs F150 pickup

Threads merged. Thanks for sharing... but this comparison is 4 1/2 years old! ![Wink](https://www.northamericanmotoring.com/forums/images/smilies/wink.gif)
From Gabe's (yes, the same one - MotoringFile) personal blog site:
12/16/02 - bridger.us » Archive » Crash Testing MINI Cooper vs Ford F150
Also, Ford made a LOT of safety improvements to the F150 when they redesigned it for 2005:
01/03/05 - bridger.us » Archive » The Ford F150 vs the Ford F150
Not that I'm defending F150s - I don't like large pickups any more than I do SUVs. Same belief - they serve a valid purpose, but they are rarely bought and used for that purpose, so we end up with way too many of them out there, making things more hazardous for everyone else.
No, I don't like F150s any more than I do most SUVs. However I believe that information should be up-to-date and accurate wherever possible.

MINI frame is good...
MINI wins! ![Thumbs Up](https://www.northamericanmotoring.com/forums/images/smilies/thumb-up.gif)
Well that is until that same barrier simulates an SUV raised 5 feet and runs over the MINI...then we might have a different picture.
The morale of the story is use your outstanding MINI handling and brakes to avoid brainles SUV drivers that wander onto oncoming traffic.
My ABS brakes and DSC have saved me more than a few times from truck drivers. We have some stupid suv and truck drivers in Hawaii.

The crash testing is very delibrately not comparable between different classes of vehicles when it comes to head-on collisions between cars, however since most accidents only involve a single vehicle, I think it is still telling. If you lost control of the car and veered off the road into a guardrail/tree/wall, which vehicle would you rather be in?

Bottom line is that a MINI is engineered to be a very safe car...maybe moreso because it is small and has to prove itself. Most folks out there probably do not grasp the concept of engineering for occupant survivability as the question invariably seems to come up in conversations about small cars. MINIs are quite impressive in this regard.

For the most part, I feel quite safe in my MINI. However, whenever a big truck drafts my bumper, I'm concerned over how "BIG" the driver of the following vehicle's "Motor I.Q." is. It's just not safe in any car to follow so closely. A head on crash is just too scary to think about even!! I'm just thankful that the MINI is built very well for a small car.

So with that said, I am most worried about (and have had the most close calls with) the other guy crossing the double yellow through blind corners. I live the land of SUVs and tight blind twisties

In an old F150? no contest. However, If you consider that a tree or wall weighs considerably more than any car ... immovable object, then the head-on thing does apply ... except for ... F=MA ... thats like why does a little light bullet do so much damage (or a little say 7 mile asteroid wipe out the earth?) ... because its moving so fast

that said, MINI does very well in its class ... top of its class!
