New R56 on Saturday
I have all of you to thank for bringing me back to my roots. I've had Fiesta's, Rabbits (a Cup car ), a Festiva ( what was I thinking?), Fiat Spiders, but never a Cooper. Always wanted one; never followed through.
So now I'm just an old fart (46) with a 4 year old son who really loves cars. The new generation MINI made me look close at what you collectively already know. After a test drive, I was sunk.....bought the car that day.
Saturday I pick up a Chili/Black base S w/nothing but the Cold Weather Package. The base car was exactly what I sought after, `cause I'm gonna have a pisser of a time building it out. I'm really astounded at the variety of performance gear available for these cars; it was paramount in my desision to buy one. And, after looking at some of the beautiful specimens in this community, I can't wait to get started.
So humor me when I post rediculous newbie questions, I have a good knowledge of the industry and automotive in general; I spent 14 years in the business as a dealerership parts manager 1982-1996 when I finally quit the business for good. But that doesn't qualify me as a Mini tech. I realize there's a lot to know and I'm looking forward to learning more about the car.
I love to hear the stories of the guys spendng their weekends racing; makes me think of the old SCCA days at Lime Rock and Summit Point. Thanks for absolute wealth of knowledge in these forums and ultimately luring me in. -Chris

Welcome to a not so old phart.
Sounds like you know what you want to do. 46 is not old, not sure I feel old except after a day doing yard work. Since I may be classified as an older MINI driver (at least by the end of next week), you are only old if you can't get into the MINI and drive.
When you get the MINI, post some pics. Keep us advised of your mods, it appears you have a blank piece of paper to build what you want.
Best,
Don
