Proud mama in upstate NY
Hi, all... I've been lurking for a few days and finally got some pics of my brand new baby! First MINI ever!!! Looking forward to chatting with you. I'm gonna be searching for lots of answers to questions and tips, but if anyone can recommend the best threads that answer the questions like:
1. snow tires (what kind, where to get)
2. automatic car wash versus hand washing (I've never had a car worth washing by hand, but don't have the time)
3. can I use my cell phone??? why does the owners manual say I can't?
4. tips on 6 speed manual (only ever have had 5spd man)
5. using my iPod with the radio transmitter (haven't gotten an output cord yet)
Thanks!!!

Welcome to NAM - nice looking MINI. To add pictures to your post, first save them to your gallery and then right click on the one you wish to post and select 'copy image location' (edited from link location). Use the icon on the posting that looks like an envelope and past the copied URL of your picture.

Welcome to NAM, bloomicy!! Fellow Upstate NY'er here!
Here's a link to my "Kassy"'s pictures:

Also, be sure to check out the Mini Club of WNY:

And now for your questions:
1. Blizzaks are great snow tires. My wife had a set on her old Taurus, and they were like a hot knife through butter. I'd also suggest getting some steel wheel rims to mount them on. I'm looking myself right now, if I come across anything, I'll let you know.
2. Hands down, go with hand washing. Even those touchless "Laser Washes" don't do that good of a job. For a quick wash every once in a while they aren't bad, but always go for the hand wash first.
3. If you don't have the Bluetooth phone option installed (Convenience Package), then you won't be able to do it that way.
4. Drive the 6-speed the same way you'd drive a 5-speed. When you get up in RPMs, simply shift to the next gear. If that happens to be 6th gear, then so be it.
5. You can use your iPod with the radio transmitter, but the quality will suffer. Check Radio Shack, they should have the cord you need. Other than that, I'd say burn some CDs and go that route.
If you need anything else, feel free to PM me.
FWIW, the Mini Club of WNY is having some pretty cool get togethers this weekend. Check out the site and maybe we'll see you at one of them!
