Stock HP Question...

On MINI USA they say that the HP is 172... when they say 172 is that to the flywheel or to the wheels?

Quoted HP from any manufacturer is measured at the crank. It's worth noting that it's usually off (Especially in BMW's case, they tend to be pretty low on stated HP figures. So low in fact that it often makes up for drivetrain losses and "Crank HP" is almost identical to "Wheel HP").

Of crank HP? The closest you're going to get to engine power is a dyno to measure whp. There's really no way to find out *EXACTLY* what the engine is making unless you unbolt it and run it on an engine dyno.

Most of the dynos on the stock R56 MINI S show that it makes anywhere from 160-170 wHP (HP At the Wheels). There are quite a few members on these forums putting down in excess of 230 HP to the wheels on the R53, including a few that have hit 260-270 .

I'm Nick .
