First Gear
I think I was supposed to start here after signing up but I guess I'm in too much of a hurry to get rolling on modifying my Mini. I've been "talking around" in some of the other forums (venues?) for a couple of weeks. I was a Sprite guy for 29 years, having raced one back in the late '70s. After rolling it 9 times doing 110 mph at Seattle International Raceway (now Pacific Raceway or something like that) and garnering the Crash & Burn Award from I.C.S.C.C. (International Conference of Sports Car Clubs) for 1979, I retired and re-built the car into a nice street racer.
Sold it two summers ago- a young woman got a good deal then went and named it 'Gracie'- my heart broke! The car was dark grey metallic with a slight gold fleck, all flat black trim and mouldings, Koa wood dash with black bezels, black Corbeau seats, etc.... and she named it Gracie? Anyway, I missed my sports car, needed a four seater (I'm an old family man now with a truck) that drove like a go-kart and what better than a Mini?! So here I am starting fresh with an '06 MCS all JCW, C. Red w/White top, mirrors, stripes; chrono pkg. and pretty much everything else stock.

welcome to NAM.
i was not aware that the Sprite could reach 110 mph! the '62 Midget that I bought in a basket in '70 and rebuilt as my first car would only have reached that speed if thrown off a cliff...
the nice thing about the car though was that it could be driven beneath the barrier down at Crane's beach - very helpful for those late night nature excursions...

Thanks for the welcome
Thanks to all for the welcome. That darned Sprite was mostly stock as I raced it in I.C.S.C.C. (not like SCCA major mods) but had $10K worth of head work, dyno testing, brake refinement, and lots of tricky things done to stock parts (those were the uncomplicated days) that took the car from stock 49 HP to 94 HP in a 1450lb car- yes indeed it would go 110 mph. But it won't go that fast when someone cuts you off and the car goes sideways. Slows down in a hurry though! A couple broken ribs, lacerations, broken scapula (wing bone) and clavical (collar bone) was the result- the roll bar did its job. The body (not mine) was totaled but I parted out all the rest and it made a fine street car.
