jeeeeeeze.
are you going to keep it after all is said and done? Honestly, if something like that happened to my car, I'd feel tempted to sell and get a new one.
on a side note, i think i came up with a name for my car.... A co-worker and I were talking, I told him I'd never name my car, I simply refer to it as "my car" soooo... the name is....

Did you know if you have the bluetooth, the MIC is on the wrong side?
They never moved it for the US folks with steering wheels on the left side of the car.

I followed the video and it was easy.

I followed the video and it was easy.
Thanks to this video, i did this in 10 min. 6 minutes of it was me not realizing the microphone piece snaps in the other way when flipping to the other side.
I didn't pull the second plastic piece off. I just pushed the wire up into the hole, used my fingers to fish it to the other side. The wire wasn't long enough to do it how the video showed.
pulling the plug off the mic was a little tough. I just used small needle nose pliers and gripped on the left and right side and pulled it out smoothly.
Big thanks!
Also for the longest time, it was annoying that i couldn't turn up the radio volume past a certain point to hear the folks talking. So if the window was down or the engine was loud, i would have to tell people to repeat themselves.
Turns out that once you are connected via bluetooth with the iphone, hit the side volume button and it turns up the bluetooth volume. voila, louder people on my MINI stereo speakers

If Brecht MINI BMW in Escondido CA was going to charge me $2500 for a scratch (skin off door, window, etc etc) I bet it will be over $10K.
I am so sorry. I checked mail this morning for the first time in 2 days to hear about Maxwell. Hope insurance treats you like a King. Thats what you deserve.
PS Matt is finally landing in San Diego, all done with Naples Italy forever on Sun March 1 at 8:30pm. WHEEEEEE!
So, March will see Euseys a little quiet online...haha

OWC: $9749.51, Do we win the piece of casting?
MINIspud: that was the second mod I did, but CHP still can't hear me when i report drunk or sleeping drivers on the highway. I literally have to turn off everything (AC, radio, windows up, etc), lean up and yell into the mic for them to hear me say the license plate and vehicle desc. Far more dangerous than having a phone to my ear, IMO.
Euseys: I'll probably be in SD again for a conference in late jul. I hope there will be something going on then. and.. Welcome to CA Matt.

YsIFit - A diminished value claim for sure.
Oh, and the rear trailing arm - $325.
dwf137 - Are we going to keep him? I picked the best shop I could locate, but we will make that call when we get him back and see how different he feels.
Mike R., as in Dirty Jobs' Mike Rowe?
Euseys - That's very kind of you. Re: insurance - We've been with USAA for more than (ouch) 25 years and they have always treated us right. The estimate has re skinning the door ($365.85 for the skin, 4.3 hours labor and 4.2 hours for paint). That doesn't get close to $2500 - but I kind of question the estimates labor rate.
Enjoy falling off the face or the earth for a little while when Matt gets in!
krim - Yes the casting shard, suitably mounted for display. I see two critical points to come, the disassembly which will I am certain reveal even more damage, putting him on a frame machine and restarting and validating the drive train. I am in at 12-13K.

Thats weird. I have made numerous calls now, and no one can tell i am talking through the car. Wonder if you got a bad MIC?
Musta missed your post about when you did it before..

I think I may have lowballed the estimate. I think i should add $1001.00
This isn't the Price is Right!
Really though, it's just highway patrol dispatch and a very small group of people. Since i work so early in the morning, i see lots of ppl falling asleep or probably drunk and call it in.
I think only 4 others can't hear me clearly enough that i have to speak louder. Everyone else i can speak normally unless it's boiling hot and i have the a/c on max.

Hi all,
So Matt is safely back, we're busy doing the rest of the unpacking that naturally follows a PCS move...no matter how much stuff you throw away and sort before the move, unpacking always uncovers a mini mountain of "junk". Grr. Good thing I have a friendly garbage man who doesnt charge me for extra trash.
Anyways, VERY EXCITED about attending our first Major MINI event, A MINI vacation in Las Vegas!
What unemployment? what crappy economy? what huge mortgage payment?
Let's ROLL.
I've made great friends through West Coast MINI and SCMM.org, its wonderful to feel that sense of community with both this board, but also in real life in person with other drivers. Wheeee!
Will let you know how Vegas goes!
Take care all until then, and Maxwell, feel better soon. xo

^lol.
it was absolutely ridiculous seeing how many people got stuck or in accidents, and here i come in my little mini, cruising on by.
a 4wd pickup was stuck on the side of the highway, here i come flying by them. Stopped to see if they were okay, they were just trying to get their chains on because they couldn't make it up the hill... (i haven't put chains on my car yet)
saw 2 flipped cars that day too.
some people here in the pac. nw just don't get how to drive in the snow, they think it's just like rain, only white.

same reason i have them... i have snow tires though, i don't think i'll ever find a situation where i'll want chains. I could understand the general public needing them though.

And the estimate is now...
...north of 16k.
Once they had him undressed a lot of distortions found. Note the yellow paint pen at he lower part of the b-pillar/sill. There are also distortions to the inside of the b-pillar.
Inside of the right rear wheel well.
Oh, and the visually insignificant front end damage - AC condenser, radiator, bumper support, and one bumper mount.
Add to that the Exhaust system.
The question is what Actual Cash Value (ACV) will the insurance company use to compute the % in cost to repair.
