I'm not saying the MINI procedure is right or correct. One doesn't break in a racecar engine that way. But MINI writes the warranty and the owner's manual so it's their rules.
Voiding my warranty? That seems a bit harsh, my MA didn't even go over the break-in procedure with me, so I could technically be blissfully unaware of such guidelines :-p

But yes, you caught me, I know I should not have, but, but it was SO MUCH FUN!

Trying to prove that a car exceeded 100mph before the first 1000 miles will be impossible! To everyone, I say, go big or go home!

i know that the car key does record information that the dealer uses in it's service records, but I don't know what the information is.

Oh, man that's exciting.
I'm glad to hear you've had a good experience at Annapolis. I ordered my shortly after you. I'm curious, do you know how long it took for your Mini to go from the VDC to Annapolis.

I shouldn't be having any work done there, nor should I have any work done at the dealer. My information shows that it was dischared to the VDC on Friday June 20th.

My MA-B. Horan, has been very noncommital on any information on when it will get to Annapolis. The Sales Manager Rick was way more positive that I might get it at the end of this week.

I know its all out of their control, but I really want it this week. I'm going on vacation and wont be able to get it until I get back.

I'm just glad to hear someone else have a positive experience there and it gives me hope.

I'm not saying the MINI procedure is right or correct. One doesn't break in a racecar engine that way. But MINI writes the warranty and the owner's manual so it's their rules.

The '08 w/ Nav manual says nothing about voiding warrantees, it's not a rule, it's a "recommendation" to "achieve the optimal service life and economy of operation for your vehicle".

Once i've gotten the clear bra on, and bedded the brakes and worn in the tires around 400 miles or so. I'm taking it to an abandoned airstrip for a few runs up past 100 mph. Then i'll take it easy until i change the oil around 1200 miles.

i could hit some dry lake beds or salt flats, but it would make things obvious when all the crap builds up on the undercarriage, and it's harder to get towing out there in case something does happen. The airstrip is actually a 1/2 day rental a few friends are planning in late july. They're doing some filming there, and i hope to get some runs in between shots. I figure if there's some wear of a different kind and takes off shavings if i hit 100+, then i'd want the shavings off before my first oil change.

yeah dry lake beds and salt flats are ugly things. Something about salt blasting away at my paintwork seams to put me off. Why stop at 100, why not try and max it out?

100 is a rough guess, I think i'll run out of real estate for braking if i go too fast. There's a rather deep culvert about 20' past the fence at the end of the runway, and i'd rather not end up in it.

i dont know exactly, but was rated for small sport jets, no commerical traffic. I'm guessing 1/2mile - 3/4 mile. I've never been there, just seen photos and videos of them doing their stunts.

2 things....

firstly, shouldn't Yuko be drinking a Mohito? and....
secondly, didn't you know that the MINI is the only thing faster than light? 1/2 a mile is plenty of space.

Our 05 VW Passat has power up windows, but you have to put the key in the lock and hold it in the locked position and it rolls up all the windows and the sun roof.

I read that confusing comment also. In the Owner’s Lounge at https://ol.miniusa.com/oe/ownersask....&relID=2065142 the “MINI Product Manager” answered a question of the month about the “Comfort Access System” and said “. . . the comfort access system only comes with ONE set of keys . . . “. That actually means you get two fobs so a "set" means "two".

She said she's sick of mohitos already.

i'm going to do some slow test runs when i get there, i just want to make sure i have enough room brake. Also, i still have to inspect the ends of the runway for wear, lose concrete, etc.. it's kind of in the air still (pun intended)

I'm always amazed at how auto companies will use the data stored in the computer to show you how you over-reved or exceeded their break-in parameters, and then not honor their warranty for some unrelated failure. All of the data is there.

My problem is going to be keeping the revs down until the brake-in period is over. I don't care about going fast. I want to go quick on the track. 150 mph in a straight line isn't nearly as impressive/fun as going through a curve at 50 mph at the limit of adhesion. MINIs are quick on the racetrack. They are gokart quick.

Can't wait.

Hey Krim, where is this runway? You're in the 626? How far are you from the 714? :D
