removing stripes

If I remove the black hood stripes on the bonnet of my 2006 MCS, will I need to repaint?

nooooooooooooo... unless you seriously abused your paint on that two-year old car. The paint not protected by the vinyl should be in as good a shape as the paint under the stripes.

If you look closely, you'll see the paint under those stripes has less swirls than the unprotected paint. But even if it is noticeable, nothing a good clay/polish job won't take care of.

I you live in very harsh conditions, leave it outside 24/7 and never clean it you might see a bit of a difference in the sheen of the paint under the stripes will be better. Just use a glaze and a buffer and buff your hood, then wax it real good and you should be golden. I wouldn't worry about it too much.
