I think the whole tracking from order to deliver is fantastic. My wife is too hard to please; she wants to see a satellite photo she can zoom into to see our car on the ship (of course they are in containers stacked many many cars high).

Try google earth with the coordinates from the ship tracking site. Zoom in and tell her she "just" misssed it!

Time for another "movie" in case some of you haven't seen it. I don't watch much tv, and watch even fewer commercials so I haven't seen any Mini ads on tv.

containers

I don't think they put the cars in containers, in fact I am almost positive. They generally only put wrecked cars in containers. They usually use roro ships for new autos. Roro stands for roll on, roll off. Just look at my username!

The Independence II leaves Southhampton July 5, 2008, docks at NYC July 14, Charleston SC July 19 and Brunswick July 21.
Stella Blue is riding with Maggie Mae. She's only going as far as NYC, though. Clubman S, Laser blue with Gray roof/mirrors.
A few more weeks and I'll be driving my new MINI!!!

I wonder if the ship is full of NA produced BMWs when it makes its return leg to europe? Or is it empty?

Our Wallace is aboard as well. Also a laser blue Clubman S with grey trim. He's coming to join Gromit, a sparkling silver Cooper S Sidewalk convertible.

It's filled w/something.... not necessarily cars. Probably US-type stuff, like Kraft Cheeze products, and Potato Chips of various forms.

Will be dropping 205 (maybe more) off in NY on Monday and heading South.

Ya, I was beginning to think we wouldn't get any more updates. Jumped from 8/11 to 8/13.

Thanks for the tracking map. My "Stella Blue" is almost here. Hopefully she'll clear customs quickly then only a truck to Peabody. The wait is almost over. Can't wait to get behind the wheel.

Looks like today is the big day for the cars to arrive in NY Port of Entry. There's a bunch of MINI JCWs on the ship too (mine included). :-)

Look like she made it...

Looks like Independence II made it to port in NY, according to VesselTracker.

I see the WW Tracking site shows the 205 as Discharged this morning (GBSOU659382) at 0800. It can pull anchor and start moving again now?

Looks like they made two stops in NY/NJ - today's stop was Port Newark, which is where the BMW/Mini VDC is located, I believe.

WW's site shows the ship has sailed from NY on its way to Baltimore.

I was wrong - the BMW VDC is over in Jersey City at the first port they stopped at. So all the Mini's discharged in NY should have been discharged yesterday.

Time to bug your dealer...

WGAX needs to get a move on before this low pressure arrives.

AN AREA OF LOW PRESSURE JUST OFF THE GEORGIA COAST IS PRODUCING
THUNDERSHOWERS AND GUSTY WINDS MAINLY OVER WATER. SURFACE PRESSURES ARE STEADILY FALLING IN THE AREA AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS ARE EXPECTED TO BECOME A LITTLE MORE CONDUCIVE FOR DEVELOPMENT...AND A TROPICAL DEPRESSION COULD FORM DURING THE NEXT DAY OR TWO...ESPECIALLY IF THE LOW REMAINS OFFSHORE. THIS SYSTEM IS EXPECTED TO DRIFT TO THE NORTH OR NORTHEAST.

Union pier (UP) terminal, pier 3. Seems like arrival is predicted 7/20...(if that's what "EDA" means)
