Programming daytime running lights

Hi Mini lovers,
I am bringing my mini classic 2003 into Canada and they require that the DRL are programmed to come on everytime the car is started. Can that be programmed? The dealer is saying I need to have the entire instrument cluster changed, which I am doubting. Please advise.
Thanks,
Patricia

Why not just run with your headlights on all the time. Keep the headlights switched on all the time -- the lights then come on when you turn on the ignition and off when you turn off the ignition. I've personally never checked, but have read on NAM that there's not much difference in brightness between the headlights and the daylight running lights. On the other hand, I just noticed that you have a 2003 which might not be the same as the second generation cars.......but you can easily check it.

I would check with another dealer if you have that option.
I have an 07 Cabrio which is a 1st Gen and I do have the option to have the DRL turned on.
But maybe there is something different with the 03 model that I don't know about, we'll have to wait for someone that has one to chime in.

I have a July 2003 build MCS. DRL's are part of the software and can be programmed, just like the sunroof open/windows down and auto door locks features.

I have on 03 mcs as well and I would love to have DRL's programmed. You mentioned that they can be programmed just like the sunroof and auto door locks.....how do you do that?

I guess like the OP I would love to know how to program this feature

Not trying to be a smart -a$$, but the dealer programs these via the car's computer when you first get the car [new] or take it in for service if you want it changed. I have no clue how it is done.

At least for the MCS 2003's: (1) DRL's are either on/off; (2) door locks can be set to auto-close at 5, 10 or I think even 15 mph; and (3) when you hold the door unlock button on the key fob down you can either get the sunroof to open and windows to go down OR the back hatch to release/pop open. That's all I can recall at the moment.

I do know that once when they had to disconnect my car from the battery to replace the power amp for the Hk radio the DRL's went off and they had to reset them. A friendly dealer should do this programming for you at any major MINI I service or even at a LOF if you ask nicely.

I didnt take your post as being a smart a$$ at all. I just want it to be where my headlights are on all the time and that I dont have to turn them off when I turn off the car. I bought the car from my step-mother in NY and I live in Texas so I doubt I can go to mini of manhattan but I will swing by the local dealership and see what they can do. Thanks.
