RE: Seat Belt Indicator

I picked up my new mini about 2 weeks ago and the seat belt indicator keeps flashing when I have something in the passenger seat. Anyone else have that problem. Just wondering if it's a defect in the seat belt sensor.

Thanks!

What are you putting in the seat? I have put some heavy stuff there and never had that happen, so I think you might have a bad sensor.

I am only putting my purse at times (about 3 lbs.) and occasionally a heavier bag with it. I took it to the dealer to be checked out and they say all is normal. There only reply is to click the pass. seat belt - a bit annoying but I guess I'll have to deal with it.

Thanks for your reply!

That's BS! There's no reason a purse needs a seat belt. Do you have another Dealer you can take it too? That would be my next stop.

Thanks! I can take it to another dealer here in Houston. I agree, a purse does not need a seatbelt!

Mine is very sensitive. I have a backpack in the passenger seat and it sets off the seat belt indicator. But I'd take it in to get it looked at.

A 3 pound purse, plus another bag (laptop, perhaps?) might set it off. My purse doesn't set off the seat belt indicator in my car, but my laptop bag does. My laptop bag is probably somewhere between 10 and twenty pounds (the laptop alone weighs 6 and most laptops are between 6 and 8 pounds).

Did you actually stick your purse on a scale? I know a gal who thought her purse only weighed a few pounds, but she kept complaining about shoulder pain. So we weighed her purse and the thing was 15 pounds. No wonder! The girls and I chipped in and bought her a cute, much smaller purse for Christmas.

Nice!

Now, email your SA and tell him what you've got going on, and explain how much your purse weighs and see what he says. If the sensor is fouling up, your SA should know right away. Good luck and let us know how it goes!

Anything over 1kg (2.2 lbs) will trigger the occupant sensor. Not that I agree with this threshold, but that seems to be the standard.
