2004 MC - remote receiver location???

hi all,

i've been following this forum for quite a while, it is a vast source of
very useful information..

i've looked for posts similar to my problem and i haven't come
across so similar, if not, sorry for this post.

well, i want to locate the receiver for the remote key..
i cannot lock/unlock the car with the remote, i have to put the key in the lock

i'm so pretty sure my key is transmitting, maybe the receiver is dead or
not connected..

my car is a used mini cooper , build date 06/2004, i bought it used.
reading here, i found posts stating that the receiver is inside the
rear view mirror...
removed the rear view mirror, nothing in there, no circuit, no cables!!!

so, does anyone know where is the receiver for the remote??
also, could a fuse be the problem?

thanks for any responses

Are you sure your key is transmitting. If I remember right the 04s and before used disposable batteries, so you could have a dead battery.

thanks for the reply Btwyx,

well,i'd bet it transmits,i have installed a new battery, checked the circuits and it seems fine..there is a red LED on the circuit board,
it lights up every time i press any of the 2 buttons...

i want to locate the receiver to check if there is something wrong there,
before i take the car to the dealer...you know about BMW dealers

now i'm sure the key is working..
took it to an electronic shop, they placed it on some sort of
receiver, pressed the keys and the frequency of the signal appear..

so, they key is ok, focus now comes into locating the car receiver

Hi, there are 3 places to look, 1st I've seen reciecvers mounted between the headliner and roof above the mirrior "not inside"/ 2nd RF modulator for keyless entry is located normally on 03's and up behind passenger quater kick panel. On 2002's it can be found in the boot passenger side quarter compartment, "right under the cargo light". Your looking for a black box about 2.5"x3.5"x3/4" it will have one cable going into it, red wire-black wire-blue-wire. Coming out of the box you will see 1 coaxial cable "antenna". Inside the box you will find a circuit board and a rechargable battery "6 volt panasonic". The battery is protection from the disconnection of thr car battery you don't lose your keyless remote programming.

Hope this helps,
