Transmission Sorrow
I have an '03 automatic Mini that has only 48,000 miles on it. The car just died on us, and we were told that the transmission is kaput. We are really upset about it because we love the car, but also do not believe that any car that cost as much as a mini does should die after 48,000 miles. Even though the car is now out of warranty, its embarrassing that a quality vehicle that has been cared for should experience such a fate...any one else who has had this happen to them, I'd be interested in knowing your story. My belief is that Mini should pay for this repair regardless of the warranty expiration..BMW is a quality company..they should deal with quality customers accordingly.

I was talking to one of the techs at the MINI dealer in STL and he said he they've only done 3 CVT replacements and he's been with the dealer since 2002.
Sorry to hear that you are one of the few and it would be great if MINI would at least replace the tranny at cost but I think it's something that get's a lot of attention because the amount of money involved.
I'd be curious to know the percentage of cars that have actually had the problem. Also, the percentage of cars that had the regular maintenance (tranny oil change) that are affected would be interesting too.
When I drive my wife's MCca I'm very gentle to simply cruise and not race.
