Radio Code

Hi and thank you for the welcoming to North American Motoring.

I have a 2003 Mini the base model. The radio is asking me for the code. My sound system is a Harman Kardon. I had this problem four years ago when the dealership had to replace the radio. I remember calling the dealership they gave the code and walk me through how to do it. For some reason I have this problem again. I called the dealership and I spoke with the technicians and I was explain there is no code. I know there is a code. I even disconnect the battery, dealership suggestion, to see if the radio could be reset. I know every radio has a serial number and for that reason the code is different for everyone. I would appreciate any help. Thanks in advance.

The radios made until about 2003 did require that you enter a code after it had been disconnected from power. Newer radios do not require a code (they use a different security mechanism that detects when they are plugged into a MINI, and automatically unlocks).

Whoever you spoke with was unfamiliar with the older radios. The dealer should be able to look up your code. You have to be persistent. You could try calling a different dealer, or if necessary bring the car in and show them the condition. I assume that you no longer have the code you were given years ago. Write it into your Owner's Manual!

Radio Code

Rkw thanks for replying to my message. After re-reading your message twice the Aha! moment came in to my mind . I have the code. It is located in a little card call Radio Pass BMW Group. The code is call Safety-Nr. I re-trace my steps and I figure it out how to input the code. Because believe me if you do not know how to enter the code you are for a long ride. Thanks again. Have a great weekend.

rrcaniglia do you have a 2003 Mini with Harman Kardon system? I do not know if this problem is for radios with HK system or for all radios from 2003 models.
I know if you disconnect the battery you will have to know the radio code and know how to enter it. If that happens to you email me and I will guide step by step how to do it. Also I am new in the forum what is the R56? Thanks. Have a nice weekend.

Did your owner's manual step by step tell you how to reset the code? I need to remove my receiver to look into repairing the CD player, (2003 with HK), AL.

Unfortunately the owner's manual does not explain how to input the radio code. If you need the steps how to input the code I would be more than happy to tell you how. Feel free to email me or if you want I can posted here. Let me know.
