Y2K may have touched the biggest danger we all face in getting our MINI in one piece - these ships are relatively unstable in rough seas - especially if water gets inside. Wikipedia has this to say about Roll-on/Roll-off (Ro-Ro) ships that carry cars and trucks:

"The seagoing RORO car ferry, with large external doors close to the waterline and open vehicle decks with few internal bulkheads, has a reputation for being a high risk design (to the point where the acronym is sometimes derisively expanded "Roll On/Roll Over"). An improperly-secured loading door can cause a ship to take on water and sink, as happened for example in 1987 with the Herald of Free Enterprise. Water sloshing on the vehicle deck can set up a free surface effect making the ship unstable and causing it to capsize."

Well, my friend went to the dealer today to work out pricing for a black sport stripe to be installed on the back of her Clubman. She already has the black bonnet strips on order as part of the Sport Package.

She also ordered the "black jack" mirror caps. What is a black union jack anyway? Is that like a pirate thing or something racial? Looking in the internet, all I found was, "no black in the Union Jack." That has some racial overtones.

So, the Undine was docked at the RDP area from what, 11:00-19:00 AIS time (or 7am-3pm local?) then took an hour and half or so to get over to Newark Airport where it has been ever since?

So, either it wasn't yet there when N666BK went by (maybe I did the math wrong), or was just too far to see...

Here is where the Undine has been lately:

The "yellow bottomed" boat, the Grande Lagos, now on it's way to Boston, was at the location below until it left just after 21:15 (5:15pm local?). It looks to be about 1/3 of a mile closer to where he was when he was looking... I have no idea when it got there. Maybe he remembers if what he saw was on the right side or left side of the water...

Do a quick search for this booking number: GBSOU757742

Looks like New York does the update all at once, not as they come/go like in Southampton. They all have the same exact time.

Oh... hahahaha as I was putting all this together, 360 cars just posted as "discharged" in NY.... at 04-09-2009 22:12:27 (booking number GBSOU757744) (the ww site always posts times in local time, it seems).

Well, it will look sharp with the black trim.

The pirate flags were black, but had a quite different logo.

Well the Faust will be in Southampton on 9/8, 12:30 to pick up Y2K Falcon's car along with the 2010 cars.

The Elektra will be in Halifax on 9/8 at 5am

The Porgy is scheduled to be at Manzanillo on 9/9. Not sure if the Porgy will show up on this site since it is not broadcasting a signal.

That's weird. The Port of Halifax has the ELEKTRA arrival still on 9/8 at 6:45am while that schedule is a day later on 9/9. The WW tracking is in line with the 9/9 and 9/11 dates. Apparently they couldn't make up the time related to leaving the UK so late? Or weather?

I asked my contact at Wallenius Wilhelmsen if the ship captains altered speed or changed courses because of tropical storms or hurricanes. Her response was,
"In answer to your question - really would depend on how bad the storm/hurricane is. Often the problem is arriving on berth. If the storm is near to the port the vessel will sit out at sea where it is safer. Otherwise, yes it will try and avoid the storm but she is able to cope very well in bad weather. The weather isn’t so much our problem at the moment as pirates! We have ships that go all over the world and we have had to change the routes of some of them to avoid the “hot spots”. You will be glad to hear that, because of the size and design of our vessels, pirates tend to stay away from us (we also have water cannons on board!). Don’t worry though…..the route the Porgy takes is usually pirate free! There are some great websites showing where pirates have attacked – I was surprised at how many attacks there are!"

http://www.icc-ccs.org/index.php?opt...map&Itemid=219

The same lady told me the Porgy is currently scheduled to arrive in Manzanillo Panama at 6:00 am on September 9th.

If I am the guy aiming the fire cannon and I see a pirate aiming a RPG, shoulder held rocket launcher at me, I am going to drop that water cannon and run indoors.

The dude in the front is holding a RPG

Because after tracking three ships, we all know the routine by now.

We will have a viewing party just for you.

I know this getting ahead of the game, but this link shows a brief timelapse journey from the Caribbean to the Pacific:

http://www.metacafe.com/watch/438350...cean_to_ocean/

Here is a link to several time lapse movies of ships going thru various parts of the Panama Canal (all are old - none are real-time). Just click on one of the images at the left side of the page:

http://video.google.com/videosearch?...itle&resnum=4#

Hopefully the Porgy will pass through in daylight hours so we can watch on one of the other real-time webcam links.

For realz!!!

I've already been tracking the Faust so long that I am totally annoyed that Denmark apparently doesn't support the AIS tracking as much as the rest of the civilized world.

Faust is happily chugging past Amsterdam on a date with Zeebrugge. If it can maintain schedule, and with the Elektra slipping a day (and going to Baltimore while Faust does not), it will only arrive in GA, what, just four days after the Elektra?

I was watching the Undine trek up the Chesapeake Bay yesterday (and have to dodge a cruise ship) and thought that the Baltimore port really sucks to get in and out of... Lots of doubling back to get in and out of there... Hours of delay, really.

Cool video. I'll be at work at 6am, so I won't be able to watch the Porgy go through the canal. Hopefully, someone here can take a screen shot of it.

Even though this is a Sail-wx site, it might show us where the Porgy is as it gets close to the Panama Canal...
