Ready for a birthday party?
On August 26, 1959, the first Morris Mini Minor was sold to the public. The car was actually produced on April 3, 1959. It was made in the Oxford factory and was given registration number 621AOK.
Those of us in the Week 34 production group should feel pretty special - our cars are going to be as close to a 50th anniversary edition as anyone can get. My MINI will be getting painted on August 26th, with final assembly taking place on the 27th - the first day on the 51st year.
A couple people in this group will be seeing their MINIs finished on August 26th - you will have the "special" 50th anniversary edition!
Happy Birthday!!!

Congrats! I read in the other thread that yours is already at Southampton? I hope that means that mine is there chilling with it!

Congratulations Maui Meg and Banannastand on you new baby! Exactly 50 years ago today (August 26, 1959), the first Morris Minor Mini was sold - so your MINIs are pretty special.
Twiggy is in the paint shop today, so since your MINIs started production the day before mine, I am hoping she will be finished tomorrow. And, even more, I am really hoping they can get her to the Southampton dock on Friday before the Porgy sets sail for Port Hueneme - otherwise, she will have to wait another 14 days.

I see that you went with Horizon Blue - me too! I guess our 2 blue babies will keep each other company at the port.

"Awaiting to be released to the carrier" means your MINI is still at the factory waiting for the 67-mile train ride to the Southampton dock. The message you want to hear is "your vehicle is at the port waiting for the shipping vessel" - actually, what you really want to hear is "your vehicle is in transit."
But, since your ship doesn't leave until September 1st, I think your cars will have no trouble finding a spot abord that ship.
Again, Happy Birthday!

I hate to rain on your parade, but are you sure the ASK-MINI lady said your car was already at the dock? Since your MINI was in the paint shop yesterday, they would have had to paint it, finish the assembly, do the quality checks, and haul it to the port all in the same day. With the 24-hour around the clock production schedule, I guess they could do it. But, I wonder if you misunderstood the message?

Hopefully it will make it there before the September 1st boat!

I did ask twice as that didn't make sense to me either - but she did say the port. I do believe though that the automated message did say "Awaiting to be released to the carrier".
I'm actually fine if it's still at the factory as the next ship doesn't leave until Sept. 1st and it looks like I should definitely be on that ship.
I've tried logging onto the owners lounge to see what they say but it doesn't seem to be working for me. Anyone else try it recently?

Forget about going to the Owners Lounge - that information there is always at least a day late. And, I know the automated message on ASK-MINI is also a little slow in getting updated. For example, today it said my MINI was still in the body shop, but when I talked to a lady in customer relations, she said it was in the paint shop.
So, if you were told (twice) your MINI is at the port, that must be right. I sure hope so since that gives me a glimmer of hope in getting Twiggy loaded on a boat on Friday.
