Ordered my MINI on 7/25/2009. MINI Cooper Convertible, manual transmission, convenience, cold weather, xeon headlight, sport seat, driving lights, checker mirror cap and of course sport stripes. I am growing more restless by the day. I've been told that normally production shouldn't take more than a week, but its been almost a month. Shipping to Southern California will take another 4 ~ 6 weeks. Its driving me bunkers. Anyone ordered their car on the week of 7/19 ~25? Does it take longer to make the cabrio than the hard top?

 

Do you have a VIN yet? A production date?

 

had the VIN for a few days now. Got it from customer relation earlier this week.

I was beginning to despair.
7/25 Placed order, 7/27 Begin production, 8/19 Production Complete (Waiting for transport)

 

I am glad to hear the production of your car is complete. It looks like your car will be leave Southampton on August 28 aboard the Porgy. The Porgy should arrive at Port Hueneme on September 18.

My friend's car is currently in production. Hopefully her car will be on the Porgy as well.

 

Called again this morning. My MINI just arrived at the port of exit.

That's a whole other month. They are putting the driving lights and stripes on at the port. I probably won't get my MINI until end of September.

 

I didn't know they put the stripes and stuff at the port of entry. Your car should arrive at Port Hueneme on September 18.

 

Let's me stay positive. I will get my MINI before October!

 

jcM1N1 - the reason your car was so slow being built is because the Oxford MINI factory was shut down for the first two weeks in August (weeks 32 and 33). BMW announced this two week production curtailment (and another week in February) last January.

I ordered my MINI on August 1st - it did not start production until August 19th and is scheduled to be completed by August 27th. Since the ship to Los Angeles (Porgy) leaves on August 28th, I doubt my car leaves Southampton until September 11th (unless they finish building it a day or two earlier than their estimate). I have my fingers crossed!

Another place we all will be interested in knowing more about is the Vehicle Distribution Center where our new MINI will spend up to a week getting a final check and detailing - and, possibly repairs if it was damaged during shipment. Hopefully nobody will get a MINI that suffers the fate of the MINI shown in the photos at the Port Huenme VDC that needed a new roof! Oh, my. I hope that doesn't happen to my MINI. I wonder how this affects the integrity of the body?

 

When I click on the link, it says, "page not found." Are you referring to the Mini with the crushed roof? Is so, they lowered the second level ramp on the car carrier right on top of the roof.

I can officially track my vehicle on the Porgy this morning. Let the fun of tracking your ship begin. Although, it just departed from Belgium today. That's some fast loading if they need to get out by tomorrow. crossing my fingers (no damage).

I agree - I was surprised when I heard that the Porgy won't arrive at the Southampton dock until 6:30 am tomorrow, and will depart at 6:00 pm (less than 12 hours later). Obviously, these guys have this stuff planned out pretty tight.

I just hope there is one last train to Southampton that will take my Twiggy to the ship - she entered final production this morning so it is going to be close. In just over 24 hours, I hope to have found her VIN on the ship's manifest!
