Mini questions!

So as of yet, I have not been Mini-fied. I'm just about to finish college and the Mini was just becoming popular when I began my education. I needed a new car my sophomore year and my budget was no where near what a Mini cost. So I got the next best thing, an old '99 VW Golf. Now that I'm finishing college and my budget will be increasing with a coming teaching job, I'm on the look for that Mini. I'm not yet comfortable with purchasing a brand spankin' new Mini. I've never owned a car below 100k on it and found a Mini near me that is at 87K. Its an '06 MCS with all the bells and whistles. Any suggestions??

I have read that 2006 MINIs were good buys because problems with earlier builds had been solved by 2006. motoringfile.com has a page with comments on which MINIs had which problems.

Whoa pardner, 87K, '06 thats a high mileage dude, averaging about 22K per year. While you have never had a car with less than 100K, it might be time to alter your thinking. An '06 with 40K would be more like it if it were me. They are out there you just need to look harder. When you get into the used market it really is a buyers market, find a good one and negotiate tough.

The 87,000 -- were they highway, city, back roads, or track miles? Big difference! Maintenance record? Your willingness to make repairs? Nice price?

Welcome! That *is* kind of high mileage, especially for an 06. There are plenty to be had out there - either an 05 or 06 is fine, as the problems from 02-04 had been fixed in the newer models.

Looking forward to seeing your new MINI, whatever you end up with!
