My first tank of gas.

My first tank of gas.
Well, 7 days ago I purchased my 06' MCS. Today I let her ride to empty. All I can say is woah, I must have drove the wheels off her. I only managed 260miles. That's only about 19.7mpg! This tank I'm going to try and baby her, maybe I can get above 20mpg
. But I can say, man what a hell of a ride!
Do y'all remember how far your first tank of gas got you?

A perfect Jeremy Clarkson quote comes to mind
"Now I've got my foot buried into where the carpet used to be, and XXX brake horsepower is roaming around the engine bay!"
Just wait till you put in a CAI and Pulley, You'll really get on it then. The sound difference is enough to make you die from over-excitement.

Best I've ever done with mostly city driving is 23mpg. And that was driving like a grandma. I'm usually around the 19mpg mark. Some MCS's seem to get much better mileage than others, I've found. But honestly, the fun outweighs the monetary issues. I didn't buy a Mini for the gas mileage......

Now that makes me feel better... cause I never got the advertised mileage.
My first tank of gas got me ~23.3 mpg and I drove about 270 miles before filling up. The best I ever got was 30.4 mpg on a roadtrip to the FL west coast, and the worst 18.3 mpg. But that may be a bit off as this is from around the time I had the car at the dealership to have work done (leaking power-steering hoses replaced).

I can't remember the first tank, but I average ~30 consistently (says my computer readout, which I reset at each new tank). I drive mostly country roads, but I spend a lot of time passing slow-movers and playing around town. That's with: CAI, Exhaust, 15% pulley, JCW 380cc injectors, colder plugs, Screamin Demon coil pack, and a quick tune from WMW. I actually never lost mpg numbers while making those mods.
I did get 6 mpg at an autocross though.

Where have I heard that before?

ihave gotten a steady 25 mpg since we bought our 2004 MCS 6 years ago.
To improve your chances you might double check that your air filter is in good condition, your tires are properly inflated, good spark plugs, etc. Good luck! You can do it! And if not at least you will have had fun trying.

mpg on my '05 MCS
Howdy,
Yes, we bought the Mini for better fuel mileage / lower costs, but it is HARD to resist that blower whine !
I got 28 mpg on the first tank, but that included some hard acceleration and some 85 mph straights.
On my last 100 mile commute, I decided to limit myself to 3,000 RPM and 65/66 mph on the highway. The calculated (no mpg computer on mine) fuel mileage was 31.8 mpg.
Hmmmmmm, for the cost/fun difference, I'm going to have to lean towards the 'fun' side.
Stock, run-flat tires @ 36 psi. 6-speed manual. Air conditioner on. Coasting to the red lights (this car coasts great !).

I used all my best hyper mileing techniques on the way home night and hit 45.1 MPG on the computer so real world (computer is very optimistic) is proably around 41-42 in real life.
the drive was about 30 miles and kept the speed between 55-60 mph wherever possibe.
Big numbers are best maintained by driving like your grandma's grandma and resisting the urge to get on the throttle except when you can get big gains for no money (i.e. down hill).

Hehe, I don't exactly grandpa it but I'm definitely restricted. I do an early morning commute (6am~) and mid-afternoon return home in Chicago (3pm~) so that I'm not at a standstill but the traffic is still such that I never really go any higher than 65-70mph. Pretty close to ideal without being completely grandpa about it
