New Clubman

Hi all,
Picked up my Chili Red '10 Clubman a couple of days ago; having tons of fun so far. I've generally had generic econoboxes up to now; cannot believe the handling! I'm in Concord, New Hampshire.

One question: dealer claims 15K miles between oil changes but what's more realistic than that? 5K? 7.5K?

Hope to see you on the road!

-Pete

Welcome to the MINI family! Post some pics of the new ride when you get a chance. I have my oil changed around 5k...there are a lot of opinions that I'm sure you'll hear...

I decided to risk eternal damnation by letting the BMW service indicator tell me when to have services. It's still got 700 miles to go to its first oil service and currently has 20,700 miles on the clock, so that's 21,400 miles. I do (by luck) drive pretty much ideal days of 50-100 miles mostly with only one warm-up cycle - short journeys are what bicycles exist for, right?

Do us Yurpeens get different service intervals from you Merkans?

Welcome to the forum, it's certainly OK to change oil before 15000, it's up to you, you will find a wide variation here in the forum on this question.

You will find hundreds of comments re: oil change interval on these engines. IMO, given the high temperature at which they operate, I chose to change my oil at intervals of 5000 miles or so. After my next oil change, I am going to have an oil analysis performed by Blackstone; their report will help me determine oil change intervals for the future. Good luck with you new Clubby.

Check out this thread regarding oil changes and analysis. My takeaway: Do a change shortly after the break-in period to clear out metal particles, then every 7500 miles.

Welcome, You are correct, we recommend oil changes every 5k, your car will last alot longer. We've already seen turbos fail from those long 15k oil changes, an oil change is cheap insurance.

Well, any object receding into the distance at a substantial fraction of the speed of light will appear to be shifted into the red end of the spectrum! Um, besides, it's red and has a stickshift.
