It's probably the driving lights holding it up. They did a slight refresh of the grill for the '11 and the old brackets don't work with it. They are having trouble getting them to the dealerships. I ordered mine from outmotoring.com, and had them in 3-4 days. I'm having them installed tomorrow at a local MINI service place, it will be a few hundred less than the dealer wanted anyway and I'm still getting the OEM lights.

It is the lights..at least mostly i think..my MA said they were waiting on them..she e-mailed early this morning and said I can pic it up tomorrow..everything is done..except.. The switch for the driving lights didn't come in.so they'll be installed but won't be able to turn them on until the switch comes in..at this point I dont care, i just want by freekin car! Seems a bit odd that the bracket doesn't include the switch as well
I thought I read in here someone complaining about the dealer already putting the front plate assembly on.. my MINI just got it's production number yesterday and I've already requested the dealer that nobody drills holes in the bumper, he picked up one of the tow hook brackets.

I didn't know the dealer had the tow hook brackets...did the dealer charge you extra for this or free??
I need to call my Mini dealer not to drill either. In California, you're supposed to have a license plate at the front of your car as well.

I'd bet he's charging me extra, it was a hassle just to get the front Cooper S rubber floor mats included in the deal.
I'm just going to ask the dealer not to put my front plates on. And if I ever get pulled over for it then i'll order that tow hook mount. But I don't really expect to ever get pulled over for it since I have friends that haven't had a front plate in years.

Same here, I'm in NY and my Xterra has a custom tube bumper, I've been running without a front plate for about 7 months and have never been pulled for it, tinted tail lights too.
You can get a "no holes front lic plate holder".... I got one for Yvette last year. My plate was sitting on the dash board for like a month!!! Better then drilling holes if you must have a front plate....
Unfortunately, some states that do annual vehicle inspections won't pass you if you don't have the front plate attached. I ran into that here in Massachusetts. Big pain...

I've been driving without a front license plate for a long time now. Never had an issue, but of course I'm just pressing my luck.

Yep...it'll be an 'add insult to injury' thing. Like, you'll you'll be pulled over for speeding, get dinged for tinted windows, for the prostitute you just picked up, then they'll pop you for the three k's of coke in the boot, AND they'll tack on a fix-it ticket for the front license plate.
Better just put on the license plate now so it's not so bad.
I know that any front license plate detracts from the frontal appearance, but like here in Iowa, we are required by law to have one. I got one of Craven's units that mounts to the passener side. To me, it looks better. You mention that it blocks the passenger side brake air duct. No, not if you raise the plate. They are adjustable, just for that reason.
