I love cars, love my Mini Cooper S
Hi NAM,
About six months ago, I bought a 2004 Mini Cooper S to replace my previous hot-rod, a Ford 302-powered 1978 Datsun 280Z. I've owned, driven, and worked on many FWD, RWD, and AWD cars (both forced inducted and naturally aspirated) and have also ridden many different types of motorcycles–
...but I absolutely love my Mini Cooper S! The handling is sublime, the 1.6 supercharged pulls and feels like a turbine, and the cute design always makes me smile. The previous owner had put a boatload of miles on it (~84k) but it's still pulling strong thanks to some mods:
Alta CAI
Alta oil catch can (of questionable utility?)
Miltek stainless steel exhaust
Alta supercharger pulley (diameter unknown)
some kind of ignition work? There's a race shop sticker on the distributor
I'm glad to be part of the community! My 90k service is coming up very soon and I'm planning on doing a Quaife LSD, SPEC Stage 2 clutch, and SPEC aluminum flywheel. I'm a little worried that the flywheel will affect the turbine-like smoothness of the 1.6 motor, can anyone comment on this?
Here's a picture of my boy next to what would otherwise be a medium-sized car. His name is Scrump:
