Tom:

Welcome. I just got here a few days ago myself.

We just bought our '06 MC last week and did not get the extended warranty from the non-Mini dealer we bought it from; even after reading the MC reliability history in the April Consumers Reports (CR). If it had been a Mini dealer, we might have been tempted.

Actually, the '05 MC has a better history than both the '06 (last of the Gen1 Minis) and the '07 according to CR; and the newer MC is all the way up to average.

If you got an '05 MCS instead, the supercharged engines (through '06) are apparently less reliable than the turbocharged engines (from '07 to present). That's not from CR, but from a Mini mechanic at an independent shop.

All the reliability reports are averages, so all we can do is be careful in our shopping; or buy a Honda instead. Hope you got a good one.

Welcome

For extended warranties read ALL their fine print.
2nd shop around prices vary alot
3rd it's not a bad idea one P/S and A/C compressor will more than pay for most warranties. We do extended warranty repairs all the time.
