I hope you enjoy your new ride and welcome to NAM. Someone is always cooking up something good to read here --or not. Here's my definition of the MINI: a short car that inspires some long tales.
Probably not everyone on NAM would agree, but I think your 02 MCS (R53) is a goodie. Some early R53s did have a lot of build problems, but the majority of the early builds (like mine) are almost flawless. I'm still enjoying my MCS as a daily driver (unless is snows deep!) and suspect at 71K, it will last a while longer.
If you haven't already heard about the "magic switch" on the R53 (MCS), here's the entire kit for a reasonable price: http://bit.ly/bs5HNA This kit plus a high-volume CAI and new cat-back pipes will help your MCS breath harder. These mods alone will put you around the 200WHP mark. Epic fun.
Or just drive it "as is". Regardless, driving a MINI, you'll never be accused of being ordinary.

Thanks to everyone for the welcome! I did finally drive it home last night. Met the guy 1/2 way, snuck it home in the dark. - what a fun ride though already.
I've spent the last few days just reading... & reading... & reading NAM. Wow I still have so much to learn about these lil bug'ers. For now, just hope to have her on the road by days end. Drivin in CNY in winter is like a constantly changing Rally course, so I can't wait!!

Welcome to another '02 MCS
The first generation MCS"s are GREAT! I bought my '02 Liquid Yellow MCS just over a year ago with 73K on it. It was a well maintained (documented) MINI I found in Virginia. I am using it as my daily driver here in upstate NY and now have just under 80K on it and have had no issues yet. I love driving my MINI and I am having a lot of fun with it. I have found that a highly optioned MINI is quite enjoyable year round.
MCS w/ Sport Pkg - S/C gives you car quick car that sounds great & the Sport Pkg makes the car handles like a go cart - A day on the track at Watkins Glen is all kinds of FUN!
Premium Pkg - Sunroof for those warm summer days and nights.
Cold Weather Pkg - Heated seats make the winter commutes nice and toasty.
Soooo, get in, drive and ENJOY!
