New (to me) Mini on the block!
Hello, everybody!
I finally pulled the trigger on the Minigun and joined the club! I've been drooling after Minis since before BMW's first gen came out and I'm happy to finally call myself an owner. We recently moved here to NC and realized that the new commute wasn't going to let us continue on as a single-car family. I found a good deal on a used silver 2007 Cooper S hard top with about 37k, 6-speed, premium package, leather, and the most unnecessarily large sunroof even conceived.
To say that my commute is now one of the highlights of my day is a severe understatement. She's the sweetest little turbocharged German darling I've driven since the VW GTI 2.0T I considered buying (mostly in reverence towards my dear departed 2000 VW Golf 1.8T). The third-gen Miata was also on the short list, but ultimately lost out due to the lack of stor... ah... who am I kidding? My wife thought the Mini looked more manly. Even the kids like it; though the three of them have to take turns.
I'm considering modding her, but thus far the bug hasn't really hit beyond some minor cosmetic nesting. The power is more than enough (especially with the Sport button engaged - the most unnecessary but amusing device ever) and the stock suspension feels just about right for now. A rear sway bar is tempting, but I'm also considering getting into autocross and I am under the impression that adding a one is a great way to bump myself into a much more competitive class.
Cheers and happy motoring!
