my new mini s

Hello all,
Got my mini s 3 months ago and am still getting used to appreciating its unique appeal (road noise and sound of the turbo). Had a 2008 bmw 328i before the mini. lov the throttle response but sacrificed a little comfort and quiet. Also the engine backfires in the sport mode and am taking it to the dealer to problem solve. I also dont lov the wheels (16 inch star spoke design with most of the 2011's). Considering selling the bran new ones for a song and getting a different style. If anyone has any interest please contact me. Stll all in all the power and appeal of this little car are hard to resist. Almost ready to fall in love. Thought this forum might help me grow to appreciate my mini even more. Looking forward to interacting!

Welcome! Getting rid of the factory wheels/tires is the first/best thing you can do. With a little research time you can come up with something lighter and better looking than the stock offerings. And with much better ride.

Thanks..I was told it was because I wasn't running 93 octane (salesperson told me I could run 89) when i told the service manager. I have an appt 2/28 to have it checked. I wonder why they didnt tell me that it is normal to pop in sport mode. Hey any suggestions regarding getting out of my 16 inch double star wheels...never really warmed up to them. Barter or sell for a song....

Yep, the 2011 MCS makes popping noises while decelerating while using sport mode... It's a feature.

The popping is a built-in feature for the 2011's and only comes into effect when you hit the sport button. I'd question the dealer's suggestion on running 89 octane. That seems to be the direct opposite of what the manual says, as well as the fuel cap.

On that note, enjoy the car! Congrats the MINI and hopefully you get the new wheels on soon. Post pics!
