A welcome addiction.
New to the fold, and have been lurking here for a couple of months now. My '11 Clubman S was ordered a week ago...so begins my agonizing wait.
I'm a little bit of a car guy: my last two were a 1999 Corvette and a 2005 GTO. I've spent the last three years trapped in a GMC Yukon, and driving my GTO on the weekends less and less. The Yukon is getting up there in miles, has never fit in the garage next to my wife's car, and chugs more than an a Scotsman (relax, I'm Scottish, so it's okay). It's a good time to shed both and get something else.
Finding the Clubman as a suitable replacement for both a GTO and a Yukon was a pleasant surprise.
I wanted some pretty specific things:
Big enough to carry my stuff (I'm a musician by night, carry tools and testing equipment by day)
Fun.
Manual Transmission.
NOT a kids car.
NOT a muscle car.
Could fit comfortably in my 2-car finished garage with room to spare.
I veto'd the VW GTI after I saw about 20 on one morning commute...all driven by kids. I veto'd the Audi A3 when I couldn't get past that it was just a small station wagon...and they're everywhere...and they seem to be the 'poor man's Audi. I veto'd the Mazdaspeed 3 when I didn't like how it smiled at me...and those seats are awful. Apologies if my characterizations offend...just my opinions.
My short list became a list of one. I think I made the right choice. My new car will look something like this when it arrives. Then the mods begin.

PS: My list of mods is already pretty extensive...
Craven Fixie for a Garmin with the EcoRoute HD module
Stubby antenna
Rear sway bar
might opt for control arms and springs early
Torque Arm Inserts
Vinyl offset racing stripe from front to back - Black with red pinstripes
Craven Platypus license plate holder
Probably a badge or two
Maybe a MiniDoMore or Curt hitch...or just go with a roof rack for my bikes.
Etc.etc.etc.
