sti to mini

hey guys i currently have a 2004 sti, got lill work done to it coils, wheels, turboback, intake, frontmount, and a good tune. im selling it and going to buy a mini cooper s.

my main goals of a mini will be to just stance it with some wide wheels and coils. nothing crazy wide or low just somewhat stanced.

my question is will i run into any problems with big wheels such as 16 by 9s, if so rolling fenders a simple fix? or is there more to it.

also any other info i might wanna know id greatly appreciate any advice thanks!

questions:
any stance tips?
hows the aftermarket? lots of options? expensive or average?
any difference in body between a mini cooper s and cooper? would one be easier to stance then the other?
hows making power with these cars? reaching 250 whp tough to do?

im very excited to join the mini world and love any advice what soo ever.
i also like this forum very much soo

I really don't think a 16x9 wheel is necessary for traction. These are light cars that really stick to the road in stock config.

Wider wheels are a bit of a necessity in a MINI coming off an AWD car or most importantly, a RWD car. This car has a tendency to understeer a lot! My M Coupe feels planted to the road. I know it's RWD vs FWD; however, I feel that with 17 8 245/35 17 and good rubber, it would be much better!

Welcome to NAM!
This thread should provide some stance tips.

Aftermarket, is not too pricey, but gets more expensive after 210whp.
+250whp will be around $3,000-$5,000 for parts and labor that's for 1st gen R53. Not too sure of 2nd Gen MCS?

If you don't want the understeer, get a beefier rear anti-roll bar and some camber plates. That will help more than the big tires.

I have no issue with wider wheels. The OP mentioned a certain stance he was looking to achieve. When I read that I thought to myself a staggered setup which is not necessary MINI.

Like others said... larger 19, 20 or 22.5mm rear sway bar, and perhaps camber plates may make the car drive the way you want.

I have the JCW suspension. After some time I replaced the OE rear sway bar with a H-Sport 25.5mm hollow bar. I have it set on the softest setting.

Another thing that most do is get rid of the run flats for regular tries and carry a patch kit with a compressor.

Drive the car for a while and then make your mods little by little. You might even like it stock...who knows .

I think the OP is talking about stance for looks, not so much for handling which I personally have no problem with. OP, check out the "Show me your wheels" thread in the Wheel & Tire section as well as the Aggressive wheel thread. There's a lot of discussions there about wheel width and offsets as well as a little bit of discussion about camber if you really want to go aggressive. I've been reading up on it myself for my show setup. Good luck and hope you pick up a MINI soon. I've had a heavily modified WRX, S2000, Evo 9 RS and although the Cooper does not match the HP of my old cars, it makes up for it in handling and overall satisfaction of driving them. Not to mention the ever helpful and great community!
