Get the "Maintenance Program Upgrade?"

Hi,

My Clubman should arrive in April. And I'm debating if I should get the Maintenance Program Upgrade. I purchased a Mini knowing that it is not a problem free car. I currently drive a 1999 Toyota Tacoma with 120k miles and have no problems, I change my my engine oil and filter every 3k milkes religiously. The MPU does sound like a good idea to have considering the cost to repair cars nowadays, not just a Mini.

I would like your guys' and gals' opinion on this. I don't think there's a right or wrong answer, just opinions.

Thanks in advance.

Remember you will have 3 Years of "Free" Maintenance and an additional 1 Year of "Bumper to Bumper" Warranty/Protection after that, depending on Miles Driven of course. Most I think are waiting until their current 4yr./50,000 Mile Warranty/Protection is about ready to expire, others are just poking $$ away until it is needed, remember just like with the IRS...you are loaning your $$ to MINI in hopes of getting it back one day when a "Covered" part is needing to be replaced. Just my 2cents.
I still have a few days of my Free Maintenance left and approx. 16,000mi. Warranty/Protection left as well, I will not go over Mileage on either and Molly is at the Dealer every 6mo. for Oil Changes and Check-ups, but she is an Auto and I've not had any major issues with her as of yet. Will I purchase the "Extended Warranty/Protection Plan" at this point I'll say no, but it is a Woman's pergoative to change her mind.

RJKimbell,

Yeah, I know what you mean about loaning money to IRS. When I buy electronic items, they always try to sell the warranty service, but I never get those. For electronic items, I would just go buy a new one. But a car is different...hmmmm...I guess I can think about it.

I'll see if the dealer is willing to go lower on the MPU.

Thanks!

Take a look at this thread in the GEN2 section. I posted the terms of the warranty and many people have buying tips.

Maybe I am incorrect but isnt the maintenance program being offered just an extension of the free maintenence?...and nothing to do with repairs once the bumper to bumper warranty expires because of time or mileage.

If your worried about repairs after warranty, you need to consider the plan that extends the warranty, not the maintenance. Yes the maintenence program does cover replacement of some parts, wiper blades, brakes...I think, and some others. But many items covered under the warranty are not covered by the maintenence program.

this is NOT a warranty extension. it only covers maintenance for an extra 3 years - like brakes, oil changes, etc. however, it is a good one since it covers up to 100k miles only if you drive alot within 6 years.

IMO the only advantage to the extended maintenance plan is if you have a stick, it will cover a clutch. Brakes and oil changes can be done with better parts for cheaper.
