Extended Motorer Protection - To get it or not?
I bought my Countryman in February and will be picking it up this week. (Yippee!!) I have decided to get the Extended Warranty, the tire package, the Polysteel, and the Invisishield, but I am wondering about the Extended Motorer Protection, the one that pays for mechanical failures. It seems like a lot of money, but, then, I don’t know what one, or two, major repairs, such as a brake or transmission repair would cost. And, what are the odds of needing such a major repair? Please let me know what you think. Thanks!
The cost:
…………………………...XL:
5/100 ……..$2580
6/100 ……..$3040
7/70 ……….$3140
7/100………$3490
……………………………..XXL:[/FONT]
5/100 ……..$2850
6/100………$3380
7/70………..$3500
7/100………$3900

All this stuff is dubious value, especially the paint and interior protection stuff. You can sorta make a case for the extended warranties as insurance, but it is expensive insurance and you're unlikely to get back in claims what you pay in for premiums - otherwise, they wouldn't be pushing it so hard. Typically extended warranties have a 100% markup at list - this is money that goes directly to the sales person and finance mgr.
Prices on things like this are very negotiable. My last car I bought, they wanted $400 for a paint protection package - when I kept saying no, they eventually came down to $50 and finally just gave it to me for free. That tells you what it is really worth.
I'd recommend you skip it all. It sounds like you're adding 25% to the cost of your car - does this make any sense for wax and insurance you probably won't use?

Forget the paint and tire insurance. I got the invishield from the dealer, Maybe a little more expensive but they did a good job and I left the dealership with it done. As far as the tire pkg goes FORGET IT in fact plan on the way home having some new non runflats installed. The mechanical warranty ask the finance mgr how long you can wait and decide. Been around the forums for a while and I would say most not all don't seem to keep these cars very long. I'm very happy with mine and hope you will too.
