Need New Tires

Hi - new to this site. I have a 2008 Clubman and am in need of new tires. The standard was 175/65R15 84H. I am having a hard time finding replacement. Any suggestions?

You might want to try Tire Rack, if you don't mind online shopping.

sounds like an oddball size too.

could probably do a 185/60 or something along those lines (little wider) and see whats available. Im sure someone with 15s will chime in on what sizes are readily available.

For example the stock 16" 195/55/16... tough to find

Most go 205/50/16 since they are popular
some even do a 205/45/16 for a lower profile.

Is must be a weird size. I have had several dealers tell me to go to 185/60R/15. My next question would be if the current tire is rated H can I go to a T?

T is just 118 mph... H is 130. how fast you wanna go

84 is the load rating... more important

As you can tell I'm new at this. I've been looking at some Cooper CS4 Touring with an 84 load rating. I don't do a lot of highway driving more city so if a T is okay that's what I need to know. There is a Cooper CS4 Touring that is an H but has a 88 load capacity. Didn't think I could go to that?

check out the link i posted above. 88 is a higher capacity so itll work. higher the number, the higher the load capacity

T should be fine

Jax: I went to the Tire Rack site and didn't see much reason for you to switch to size 185/60/15; I don't think the choices are as attractive there as in your OE size 175/65/15. Your OE size actually has two highly rated tires, if you want either Grand Touring All Season (General Altimax), or High Performance All season (Yokohama AVID ENVigor, which seems to be a fairly popular choice among A/S tires here).

I think that getting a set of tires that you really like is worth the effort and time to make an informed choice. Thus, a visit to www.tirerack.com should be worth your while; it's tire info rich. You'll need to decide what category tire best suits your preferences, as all tires are compromises. For example, if you prefer a comfortable, quiet ride with long tire wear over maximum grip and handling, you'd probably be better off choosing a Grand Touring A/S tire over an Extreme/Maximum/Ultra High Performance Summer tire. Those two are extremes, so there are plenty of more subtle choices between those two.

Maybe our Tire Rack guy will run across this thread and chime in.

Since I have roughly the same dilemma and am planning to get tires this Wednesday, I figured I'd revive this thread for some opinions.

My '04 Cooper carries the stock 8-spoke wheels, apparently in the 175/65R15 size (5.5-inch width). The crap tires that are currently fitted (Kelly...Something-or-Other...GT...Blah) are 185 width, so it appears the previous owner was given similar advice about upsizing. No advice was apparently given about proper alignment, however, as the fronts are terribly worn along the inside edges.

Anyway, my favorite local tire shop (Tire World of Colorado Springs) lists both the General Altimax and Yokohama Avid ENVigor as available options. Anyone have any pros, cons, or other advice about either or both of these tires? Both seem to be highly rated by users on Tire Rack (8.0 and 7.7) and carry similar warranties. I'm leaning toward the General because it's slightly cheaper, but the Yokos aren't that much more and I could be swayed.

I hereby open the floor to comments...
