Hello, Scott here from IL. If anyone still looking for a room, I came across a quite Inn on Hwy. 129 only 9 miles to the tail of the dragon. It is called Punkin Center Inn and it is on a great curve along with a small store and a delish bbq joint called Dragon Pitt. It is pretty new and we enjoyed our stay. I had a great time staying there and eating there. The owners are very friendly and accomodating and everyone I met here was super nice and helpful. Being right on the dragon it is one of the few motels so close. We liked being out of the city and being in such a beautiful setting. We also drove the Cherohola Skyway and Foothills Parkway which is only a few miles from there. The website is www.punkincenterinn.com. Just wanted to share this info with my fellow enthusists.
