Headrest Locks

My 2011 Mini has rear headrest locks that keep the headrest from going down. The lock is so high up that it won't even go down to the last notch. How can I remove the lock?
Thanks!

Great Question, I have had my Mini for 2 weeks and that is the one thing that really bothers me about it. They cover up so much of the rear window, you can't see anything out of it. I have been thinking of just taking them off and put them in the trunk, i mean boot.

Thanks, Kev

Pull out the PIN on the 'lock' and remove it... that's what I did.

+1 The pin will slide out easily once you get it started with a punch, piece of stiff wire, etc.

This.

I did this the second I got the car home. I used a very thin screwdriver to push the pin out (there's nothing holding it in place, just push it all the way through) and took off those stupid collars. Now the rear headrests go all the way down and don't get in the way, and also you can fold the rear seats down without having to remove the headrest which would get in the way before.

2 minutes of your time, a small screwdriver, and problem solved.

I just removed mine completely and stored them. If I ever have more than 1 passenger, which won't happen very often, its easy enough to put them back in.
