Newbie looking at 05 Mini S

I am looking at an 05 s model with 150K miles. Is there any inpaticular that I shlould look for. How long can these motors go before an overhaul? How much is an engine overhaul? I assume clutch, brakes, axles etc can be done by a mechanically inclined owner.

Thanks for any advise.

I found that a crate motor was cheaper than a complete overhaul.

More information may be found here: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...-hard-way.html

I'd advise caution, as even if a detailed inspection, compression check, blower gear check, and other diagnostics short of a tear-down all look good I would still not expect the drive train to have too much left in it.

Certainly there are 200k and even one or two 300k Minis out there, but the odds are not in your favor.

The full drive train rebuild is not for the faint of heart, with a price in excess of $10k. Even a limited rebuild will be expensive, and at that mileage cherry-picking components could be a losing game, as the "weakest link" shifts from blower, to axles, to valves, etc....

Kind regards,

Charlie

An'05 with 150K is probably going to be a bit risky, MINI parts are not cheap so be prepared to spend some money on repairs.
