Hey everybody,
My name is Ryan and I'm a college student in NY. Just today I put my new 2004 Mini Cooper on the road that I purchased last week in NC. 85K miles, not a hint of rust (which is a treat for us New Yorkers), and only a few minor cosmetic fixes to do.
I am in LOVE. I'm enjoying it so much, it handles tight and it is QUICK. It's my first real nice daily driver. I also have a 1981 528i BMW that I'm slowly working on.
Happy to be here!

Congrats,
I think I was 20 when I got my first Mini. Took me 40 year to buy another one I mean another two. 12/10 and 01/11
This is a great place for info and there is really knowledgable Mini folks here. Just always try the search function first and then ask away.
Enjoy the Mini and welome

I figure some ignition tweaks and a cold air intake. Any other cheap performance suggestions?

You're absolutely right about the 3 series. And yes, it is so far haha. I really shouldn't put too much into it though because I have college to pay off. And because it's not a sport, I feel like it can only get do fast you know?

Actually, I haven't done any tweaks to the engine and such. I'm waiting until after mine and my fiance's wedding to get the JCW Performance Tuning Package from MINI for the MCS. Both of us stick to "OEM Plus" modifications to our cars. I'm all about the subtle cosmetic changes and have some major "umph" to back it up.

Cheap performance modifications...hmmm....off the top of my head I would say...1) cold air intake, 2) new wheels (rims and tires) to lessen the weight, 3) probably a good service at a BMW or MINI dealer to just get her running smooth

Ah I see, man that must be a pricey package, but I bet a ton of fun. And random street races are the best haha. And I'll have to look into rims for the future, but i think the stock ones I have are pretty light, like 13 lbs apiece or something. I didn't think you could get much lighter than that. But I am going to do a tune up soon, plugs, oil, etc.
Thanks for the info! I'm sure I'll always be looking for cool things to do to my mini.
