A letter to MINI

Please make comfort access standard. No one knows what it is therefore making it a pain to find. Everyone else makes it standard now. We don't know we need it until we have it.

Cheers.

There are a couple of options that are pretty expensive that I think, in this day and age, should come standard.

$500 for USB/BT when you are already paying $750 for a HK system?
$250 for a plastic armrest? No, really, $250?
$xxx for an auto-dimming rearview mirror?

I'm sure if they could make the gas pedal a $500 option, they'd figure out a way to do it!
"Mr. MA, isn't this gas pedal kind of expensive?"
"Well yes, but remember that it's a British gas pedal."
"Oh, ok, great, then sign me up for two of them please!"

You know, before I got my MINI, I had to drive around in my mother's Q5. It has comfort access and I love it. I'd love to have it on my MINI, but when I think about it, it's better off without it. The MINI isn't a normal car. It's out of the ordinary and can be totally nuts. Just look at the key. Hiding the key would take a bit away from it's essence and style.

Conveniences are nice, but I think I prefer this.

Subzero: For those options, I couldn't agree more though. lol

I have a feeling MINI would increase the price $500, since that is the cost of the package now.

Not worth it in my opinion.

I had a lexus is300 for 4 months(rental) and it had the keyless setup. I don't care for it. I felt silly even pulling the key out to unlock the doors since I don't have to which meant that my passengers had to wait for me to touch the door. I keep keys in my back pocket and since I didn't need to remove the key to drive, I'd forget and end up sitting on the key which can be uncomfortable. I know this seems like stupid complaints because it's all really my own doing :P but if I need to pull out the key anyway then why bother getting the feature in the first place?

I've had it on my last two cars, and have gotten so I can't live without it. I find it more uncomfortable to leave my keys hanging on my (admittedly long) legs while driving.

Anyways, I really want to move into a Cooper S, but am having trouble finding comfort access anywhere. Just frustrated, that's all.

I think I've seen a couple Manual MCSs ('11/'12) in the midwest region with comfort access. I don't know what other options you want, but I know they're out there.

I wonder if the Comfort Access requires some Japanese produced components. Might explain any shortage that may exist.

2009 MCS with the comfort access package here. Most the time I don't even get the keys out of my pocket, doors unlock for me, push the Start button, off and running. Love it.

I'm looking for an S with comfort access, nav and a sunroof. New/used I don't care particularly, as long as its good.

Nav I understand making an option. I can see that it gets passed on and even though I think its enough of a convienience to justify having it, if you aren't going to travel or just want to save the money, by all means skip. Same is true of the sunroof, I get that you want to give the choice to shed some pounds.

For Comfort Access though...that's a quirk right up Mini's book, and unusual enough to merit making it standard. It has to be in less than half of the vehicles out there, bumping up production to cut costs has to be a benefit. As stated above, the bluetooth antenna should be standard.....so should the ones to control comfort access.

You area dealing with BMW mentality even on the value priced MINI. Everything with BMW is a la carte. And if you thought $500 was expensive for CA try $1000 on the X5. Had to have it though.

I had a 2008 Toyota Highlander Limited. It came with CA standard. There wasn't even a place to put the "key/fob." You just left it in your purse or pocket.

Have it in my Prius and after getting used to it I can't live without it. Ordered my 2012 with it. My wife also loves it. She usually drops her keys into her purse which is the size of a carry on with a gazillion things in it. It used to be it would take her 5 minutes to find the keys. Now, she just walks up to the car, gets in and pushes the button. I do agree that it should be free or close to it.

Big no for me on making comfort access standard. Not an option that I want on any of my cars, ever.

If the anvil hadn't been invented until just now, it would have so many buttons and switches, safety guards, alarms, warning signs, inch thick owner's manual and limited warranties that horses would have to go barefoot because nobody could keep it running.

I don't care for CA and don't order it on any of the dealer stock when I order. People like you who have to have a certain option (I'm in this boat too with Anthracite headliner) need to custom order.

Also, you'll likely see it a bit on early '12s as idiot dealers mistakenly order the new, revised Premium Package with the CA.

If you're considering new, why not order one with everything exactly to your specifications?

I think it should be standard as well. Had it on my Audi and loved it.

To those folks who don't like it, just because it would be a standard feature of the car doesn't mean you have to use it. The car will still unlock just fine using the key fob. Same goes for sticking the key in the dash to start it.

Oh no I would use it, then get frustrated at myself for using it lol.

Making it standard =/= making it free. Lots of us don't want to pay for it.

This.

I never understood why anyone would ever buy new and not get exactly what they wanted. If you're going to buy new, then order it exactly how you want it.

We used to pay for airbags and anti-lock brakes too. This should be standard. There is not need to put a key into the cars ignition to start the car or the need to a put a key into the door lock to unlock the car. Its old and unecessary.

I'm not sure if you can add it on after the fact, but if you can, I'd have to imagine that it would be a pretty pricey retro-fit.

I have only heard two things about doing almost ANY retrofit. Either (a) it cannot be done, or (b) it would be pretty pricey (translated as astronomically costly).
