A letter to MINI

There are a couple of options that are pretty expensive that I think, in this day and age, should come standard.
$500 for USB/BT when you are already paying $750 for a HK system?
$250 for a plastic armrest? No, really, $250?
$xxx for an auto-dimming rearview mirror?
I'm sure if they could make the gas pedal a $500 option, they'd figure out a way to do it!
"Mr. MA, isn't this gas pedal kind of expensive?"
"Well yes, but remember that it's a British gas pedal."
"Oh, ok, great, then sign me up for two of them please!"

You know, before I got my MINI, I had to drive around in my mother's Q5. It has comfort access and I love it. I'd love to have it on my MINI, but when I think about it, it's better off without it. The MINI isn't a normal car. It's out of the ordinary and can be totally nuts. Just look at the key. Hiding the key would take a bit away from it's essence and style.
Conveniences are nice, but I think I prefer this.
Subzero: For those options, I couldn't agree more though. lol

I had a lexus is300 for 4 months(rental) and it had the keyless setup. I don't care for it. I felt silly even pulling the key out to unlock the doors since I don't have to which meant that my passengers had to wait for me to touch the door. I keep keys in my back pocket and since I didn't need to remove the key to drive, I'd forget and end up sitting on the key which can be uncomfortable. I know this seems like stupid complaints because it's all really my own doing :P but if I need to pull out the key anyway then why bother getting the feature in the first place?

I've had it on my last two cars, and have gotten so I can't live without it. I find it more uncomfortable to leave my keys hanging on my (admittedly long) legs while driving.
Anyways, I really want to move into a Cooper S, but am having trouble finding comfort access anywhere. Just frustrated, that's all.

I'm looking for an S with comfort access, nav and a sunroof. New/used I don't care particularly, as long as its good.
Nav I understand making an option. I can see that it gets passed on and even though I think its enough of a convienience to justify having it, if you aren't going to travel or just want to save the money, by all means skip. Same is true of the sunroof, I get that you want to give the choice to shed some pounds.
For Comfort Access though...that's a quirk right up Mini's book, and unusual enough to merit making it standard. It has to be in less than half of the vehicles out there, bumping up production to cut costs has to be a benefit. As stated above, the bluetooth antenna should be standard.....so should the ones to control comfort access.

You area dealing with BMW mentality even on the value priced MINI. Everything with BMW is a la carte. And if you thought $500 was expensive for CA try $1000 on the X5. Had to have it though.
I had a 2008 Toyota Highlander Limited. It came with CA standard. There wasn't even a place to put the "key/fob." You just left it in your purse or pocket.

Have it in my Prius and after getting used to it I can't live without it. Ordered my 2012 with it. My wife also loves it. She usually drops her keys into her purse which is the size of a carry on with a gazillion things in it. It used to be it would take her 5 minutes to find the keys. Now, she just walks up to the car, gets in and pushes the button. I do agree that it should be free or close to it.

I don't care for CA and don't order it on any of the dealer stock when I order. People like you who have to have a certain option (I'm in this boat too with Anthracite headliner) need to custom order.
Also, you'll likely see it a bit on early '12s as idiot dealers mistakenly order the new, revised Premium Package with the CA.

I think it should be standard as well. Had it on my Audi and loved it.
To those folks who don't like it, just because it would be a standard feature of the car doesn't mean you have to use it. The car will still unlock just fine using the key fob. Same goes for sticking the key in the dash to start it.

Making it standard =/= making it free. Lots of us don't want to pay for it.

I have only heard two things about doing almost ANY retrofit. Either (a) it cannot be done, or (b) it would be pretty pricey (translated as astronomically costly).
