Finally decided to join!

HI NAM'ers,
I have been a long time lurker to the forum, and finally decided to join. I call the canyons of Colorado home, and love my '05 Cooper S! I'm starting to get into the whole performance modding thing and lately I've been getting a little lost. There are so manny different ways to go, but no local MINI only shops to get answers from.
Any suggestions on who to go to, so I can get the power I had in my old 5.0?

Realistically, you'll never get a 5.0's level of power out of the MINI's 1.6 liter engine. It only has 1/3 of the displacement, and there really isn't any replacement for displacement.

That said, you can make the car a lot more fun. Running MOAR BOOST will definitely make more power, as long as the engine can handle it. It can get expensive pretty quickly, though, if you're trying to keep the engine reliable through that.

Personally, I think that suspension upgrades would be a better use of time and money. If you don't have to slow down for the corners, you don't need as much motor to get you up to speed again. But that's usually the way I feel about most cars...

^^^ Agreed getting V8 HP out of an R53 is going to be DIFFICULT to say the least. There are ways to do it but count on spending LOTS of $$$.

What part of CO. are you in? I might of seen you around.

One other question, your screen name is Canyon Factory but, you want tons of power with no suspension mods? Not saying all the HP you can get is a bad thing but it's a MINI not an SRT-4, its ment to tackel corners.

Well the 5.0 I had was an all stock 89 LX and it really wasnt all that impressive. I think I can get my new MINI to run better than a 15.5.

**** I like cars that handle but being in highschool still having a fast car means more to me than having a fast handling car. I live in Littleton by the way.

So what do I have to do to make it faster? I'm bone stock right now, it was my dad's car before my 5.0 got T-boned.

Best thing to do on a high school budget is a smaller S/C pulley. Either a 15% or 17% brand really dosent matter. Its a big differance in power, and cheaper than most intakes and exhausts.

Pulley is best and so is searching the forums - LOTS of threads on this! The 5.0 was a great engine - had an '88 (5 speed) and a '89 (auto) GT and loved them both.
