Welcome to the board! Not to scare you, but the CVT trans on those early Cooper autos need to be well maintained. If you haven't already, I'd look into getting the fluid changed.

I don't have a CVT MINI but I do know that the CVT takes a special fluid, not regular ATF. I would have it done at the dealer (don't let them tell you it doesn't need to be changed) or at a specialized MINI shop. Make sure they know what you want- blank stares are bad news.

P.S.- I love the early R50 models. The chrome strip along the bumpers and single reversing light are boss!
