New To MINI

Hello all,

I just purchased a new to me 2008 MINI Cooper S with the JCW tune kit. It is pepper white and seems to be pretty fully loaded. All the switches are there except the heated windshield one.

I do have a few questions...

It is a 2008 with only 21000 miles on it. This is my first Car manual. I have had trucks and VW busses before. But the clutch doesn't engage until it is almost (last half inch or so) fully released. What does this mean? Is the clutch on its way out ? Can it be adjusted? What should I expect to pay or do at MINI? Is there things I should know to tell or ask them for?

Secondly is the warranty transferable ? I think it isn't up time wise until April. The drivers door handle is difficult to open from the outside.

Other than freaking out about the potential clutch thing I love my new mini. Being 6'2" my freinds think it is like a clown car for me but I fit great.

Welcome

I just got my first Mini too. A Pepper White 2006 Cooper S. Loaded, black roof and stripes. Pepper White is a pretty classic color I've been told.

Yea I was a little hesitant at first due to the color but I got a fantastic deal on it and it has way more options than I originally thought I could get. Now the color is slowly growing on me. Plus I am inside the car who cares about the color. Besides the clutch thing it is a blast to drive.

Does sound like the clutch is in need of looking at, the clutch is self adjusting. Should start to engage at least half way up. Check the fluid in the brake fluid reservoir ( it feeds the clutch slave cylinder). The clutch is considered a wear item, and is not covered by the warranty . Door handles should be covered.
Dealer repairs for the clutch are kind of spendy so check the hydraulics first. Good luck.
Oh, by the way, WELCOME!

I see, is it a job that any local mechanic could/should tackle cheaper or is it better to let the dealer do it ?
