New 2003 Mini Cooper Owner

I just recently purchased a 2003 Mini Cooper here in MD. Love driving it so far. Coming from a 1992 Volvo 740 that had over 331k on it. Big difference!

I had a bit of bad luck this weekend involving my key. I was only given 1 key with the car and I lost it. I purchased a "General Key" from the dealer yesterday and recieved it today. But once I arrived home, the key would not unlock the door to my MC.

If anyone has any tips, similar experiences, I am all ears! If worst comes to worst I'll buy the other key as well. But I was hoping to hold out a week and see if the original showed back up.

So using the key slot on the door handle does not work or remote door unlock? I lost one key set and replaced it with another set (not the vallet key) it was like $150!! Yikes!!
