I just bought an automatic 2005 Cooper Mini S, it has 77,000 and was $14k tags and taxes, etc...

The dealer sold it to me, and pending a MD State Inspection pass---I keep the car. The car sale is in Virginia--- they have different rules. If it doesn't pass, I can take it back no harm/no foul...

Was I mad buying this car?

I read about the transmission issues--- but I figured not ALL the minis went belly up.

Coming home, the break light came on--- so I need new pads...
That alone will pretty well screw up the state inspection.

Should I take the car back and run for the hills?!

Or maybe just see what the state inspector says when he looks at the car.
I'm worried because I've never made such an expensive decision which could literally catch on fire and burn taking with it my hard earned cash.

Maybe the reports are just scaring me too much and the thought of another break job right after buying the damned thing is a bit frustrating. Especially when the dealer just old me how safety conscious they are.
