New here... and already not good news...
Hello Everybody... big turbo fan... have one on my 06 Silverado. Wife's been wanting a Mini for a LONG time. Been shopping Craigslist, eBay, and local dealer stock for awhile. Finally we buy one used local... a loaded 07 S with 42k miles... very pretty car... zero dents... looks to be well taken care of. Test drive for about 15 minutes goes good. Takes about an hour (all freeway) to get home with the car and the OIL PRESSURE lights up (with chimes) at intersections. Further review of owners manual says stop driving the car! Wife has driven her dream car for less than an hour and was flat bedded back to used car dealer! Oil level is OK. Oil had been previously replaced by used car dealer... and they admitted using non-OEM filter and Mini recommended (Castrol?) synthetic oil. Once car back at dealer they replaced oil and filter (again) with Mini parts and recommended oil with no change in low pressure at idle at operating temp. Now used car dealer will send the car is off to a Mini Dealer. There we're hopeful that used car dealer will PAY what it takes to fix problem... whatever it is... AND replace the recalled aux water pump. So far, it looks like they'll do the right thing. Little scary so far... wifes a little bummed... but hopefully this is a bump i the road and we're on our way to Mini bliss.

There are parts in the filter that get tossed out by an inexperienced mechanic fairly often. Odds are they are missing the spring at the bottom or something was upsidedown etc. If that is fixed and you stopped driving as soon as it lit, you will probably be fine.
Now just hope that is it and Mini doesn't try to ream the car dealer and make it out to be a bigger problem than it is or it will take longer to get it back..

Thanks guys. Car is at Mini and waiting for diagnosis. At this point I am confident the car will be fixed correctly... on the dealers dime. As soon as I get a diagnosis from Mini I'll post it up. It doesn't appear low oil pressure issues plague this car/engine... so maybe... hopefully its something like an oil pump or sensor. We'll see...
Wife really wants her ride home...
Thanks Again

Not an "s" guy but I've heard of this issue where the tech incorrectly seats/installs wrong filter and owner gets a scary warning. Don't assume it's the worst case until you get some evidence back from a reliable source!

Thanks guys... we're hopeful its nothing serious. But no car this great weather Arizona weekend :(
Latest from the Service Advisor from the dealership we bought the Mini from is that Mini (of North Scottsdale) originally could not replicate the problem. But later they did. What this tells me is that they intiallly did not understand the problem was with oil (or sensing) at operating temps. Our dealer was able to replicate what happened when we drove the car home after driving the car 16-18 miles... not sure that info got passed along to Mini... another delay. Mini replaced the oil pressure sending unit and problem still exists. We're being assured its an electrical/voltage problem... not an actual mechanical engine problem. As I roll my eyes we'll see about that... my wife is getting pissed... but we're hopeful cooler heads will prevail... next week...

Well, now Mini is saying it was indeed the oil sending unit. I guess this is what happens when 3rd or 4th hand information winds up getting back to the owner. So, fingers crossed on the pressure sending unit. Aux water pump (recall) is also supposed to have gotten done. Windshield was cracked and dealer ordered replacement. Our car has the auto windshield wipers... so that windshield is not common(?) I guess. Anyway, a custom order that I am almost certain obtained through Mini. We're hopeful everything is wrapped up tomorrow and I can peal my wife off the ceiling!
Now, on to replace the drooping "Bonnet" scoop with a JCW CF version.
And get rid of the these:
