New from NC! 02 MCS!
Just picked up my first Mini last week, from NC (USA). Been in the Japanese import turbo game for a while, got stressed and worn out over roll caged daily driver so I sprung for this sweet little thing! I have tons and tons of experience in turbocharged imports and engine management, built a couple turbo hondas and my latest was a turbo miata, full standalone, built bottom end blah blah blah. I hope to come here and learn a few things as this is my FIRST european vehicle, but I also plan to be very helpful with any forced induction questions in general people might have! Everybody loves a useful noob
On to the car...
2002 MCS
BONE STOCK! (minus wheels)
Some unfavorable Falken 17inch wheels, Bridgestone Potenza tires.
98k miles on the clock.
MINT interior!
Picked her up for $8k!
Day I picked it up^^^
A quick wash!
All clean and nothing spectacular!

Whats the reliability like with these 1.6s? Ive had many *** imports with high power levels that took a beating and kept drumming so I was curious how these hold up to modifications?
Get touchy/moody with just a pulley?

By the way, my MINI is "moody" because of all the garage time she has had. Replacing clutch, tranny, axle, wheels, other smaller items. Previous owner drove this thing like a race car I guess. Nothing wrong with that, but I drive her more like a souped up go cart...

I just guessed, couldn't remember which side.
generally i think the motors hold up fine it seems to be the things attached to it that like to fail
there are allot of performance options with these cars. heads, cams, intakes, exhausts, injectors, pulley for the stock eaton supercharger, swap for a sprintex charger, a few people have been successful going turbo.
the only thing I think that is lacking for the mini aftermarket is tuning, to few and to expensive when it come to tuning.

The one thing I'd suggest is to pick up a Bentley manual, go through some of the older threads and seek out any issues that may come up before you start modding. And like someone said, the 1.6 is a tough little cookie, the parts attached can be a pita sometimes.
My car's got issues because the previous owners didn't take care of her as well as I'd hope.

Bentley manual are not cheap but they are worth it. I hope I can get my hands on a used one somewhere. When the bought the car they guy gave me a stack of receipts of the stuff he done over time. He was the only owner and bought the car with 8 miles on it. I am going to change out all my fluids this weekend even my transmission.
