New Mini Owner Here in Kentucky
Hello All-
Just wanted to introduce myself to the online community. I'm the proud new owner of a 2007 Mini Cooper "S". I purchased him from the local Cincinnati Mini Store. Unfortunately, after only 5 days of driving and a sudden drop in ambient temperatures, I began hearing a rhythmic knocking coming from the engine--a turbo-diesel noise. I returned to the dealer to have a new timing chain kit installed. While the repair would have been covered under the warranty I purchased, it would have taken a few weeks to have an inspector come by to review the car and approve the repair. Thankfully, the dealer went to bat for me and actually had Mini pay for the repairs. I picked the car up today and everything is back to spec.
Having driven a '91 Isuzu Trooper throughout college, a new car was definitely in store for me. Being a traveling nurse (or sorts), 12 miles to the gallon from the Troop was really starting to wear on me--that and the constant need for new parts became a real thorn in my side.
I opted for a Mini Cooper "S" because I heard they're great fun to drive, offer pretty decent fuel efficiency, and, well, I've always wanted one. I'm really looking forward to getting to better know my Mini.
I'm excited to be a Mini owner and am looking forward to interacting with my fellow owners.

Thanks for the welcome!
I was very appreciative of the dealership for reaching out to the automaker when it came to the repair--turning what would have been a 2-3 week process through the warranty company into just a 4 day ordeal. I didn't even have to pay the deductible (at my request/subtle demand). Overall, I can't complain. The dealership actually reached out to me (they contacted me about possibly purchasing from them) and I think they felt bad having sold me a car that required a major service within days of the sell.
The gas mileage is great! I'm getting over 40 mpg on the highway and about 32 mpg overall. It's tons of fun to drive. I'm taking turns on some of the county back roads at 45-50 mph that I would have to take at 20-25 mph in my old Trooper. It's definitely the most fun I've had driving!
