The bigger question is when will the Panama Canal Commission grant them clearance? Other than military ships - merchant ships have to wait for PCC clearance prior to beginning transit of the canal. Given that the locks can only accommodate a set number of vessels an hour, ships need clearance from the PCC to begin their transit. How long it takes for that clearance to be granted depends on the number of other ships waiting - on both sides of the canal, the weather and water flow in the canal, what construction is going along the canal, military ships transiting etc...
So, is anybody else passing time while waiting for delivery by downloading, printing, and reading the full Mini Owner's Manual (from the Owners' Lounge)? And then do you reread the really good sections over and over?
I thought so.
yup.. totally doing the same too! hopefully my baby will be arriving in Baltimore on the Titania here on 3/6 and in my hands by the end of march.
i've been buying accessories like a mad man too.. hehe...

Tombarra has arrived at Port Hueneme! My Mini has never been closer, yet my ability to track her has never been worse. In the immortal words of Homer Simpson, "Woo-hoo! Doh!"
Well I have been trying and trying to get tracking info. Finally today I clicked track and my info came up! It is on the Tamerlane ETA for Baltimore on the 13th. I am excited to see that it is finally on a ship! What is the typical stay before it is sent to the dealer?

Truly it depends... If nothing needs to be done at the VDC your MINI could be on a truck within 12 hours of disembarking from the ship. However if there are VDC installed items to get taken care of (or worse damage in transit) then your MINI will be there for a bit longer...
Just got a call from my MA. My MINI is on the Chesapeake Highway. Marinetraffic.com says it left Southampton 2013-03-02 23:27 local time. Finally some progress.
Was talking to him about the GPs and Austin MINI has a couple left that are available if anyone is looking.

Congrats!! Shouldnt' be too long now!
I'm on the Tongala, which is somewhere between Europe and Panama. I'm trying to pretend that it doesn't bother me to keep seeing 'out of range' when I try to track it.

Also on the Chesapeake Highway! Estimated arrival in Brunswick, GA is showing 3/13/13.
Wow. I feel for you! This is frustrating! How likely is this to happen to other ships that are headed to the west coast? Is it normal to have such a delay at the Panama Canal?
Just pre-stressing for my ship headed that way.
Thanks!
Kim

Use www.sailwx.info until Tongala gets back in range of land...

Sadly, it is. There's a set number of ships that can safely transit the Panama Canal a day, and when volume is up a queue can build on either side of the canal.
That's looking rather good for us here, as being in the Midwest, my Lil Ragtop will POA in Baltimore. That's 9 days from Southampton, if there is a stop in New York. So we have six ships to get on to have delivery on or before Easter Weekend. I"m pumped, except for the six days that I have no view of this ship crossing the Atlantic. Hey, let the party begin.
